Jessops to go into administration ?

They won't go under either as they are now one of the few national chains that offer try before buy on products. You can't do that in argos, that sells a lot of the same products, nor get advice on them etc. When someones washing machine breaks and they need a new one, they often won't try order online, instead they'll get in the car and try and pick one up the same day, especially if they have a family.

Yeah, I didn't think Currys PC World is due to go under, especially after announcing that they faired Xmas quite well.

I believe you are wrong on Argos though.
Yes you can't really get advice or look at the items properly (though I believe you can ask) but they have always carried their 30 day return policy for as long as I can remember.

Ever since I was a child I remember there being a queue for customer service of people returning things. Its also the reason you will occasionally buy something and its obvious it may have been opened before. So Argos has always had one of the best returns policies on the high street.

I do find the instant reaction to blame Amazon et al slightly strange, it's all the internet's fault etc, yet specialist camera places seem to be doing quite well

It's silly, I was looking at a lens the other day, a small independent camera shop was selling it for £299 and it was available for £260-270 online.

Jessops wanted £399, how do they expect to sell anything when they're over 50% more expensive than online and 33% more than another retail store.

But then when I bought my D600 they were the cheapest place to buy it, I got a bundle deal with 2 x UHS 90MB Extreme Pro 16GB Cards, the 50mm lens and warranty. They also price matched the drop in price over the next 7 days.

They told me they'd price match with WeX but WeX were giving free stuff away with bodies too.

I did buy my Canon Speedlite 580EX MkII from Jessops because they price match to an ad in a magazine they advertise in.
I purchased the 580 for £270 instead of jessops shop price of of £399 ! !

If Jessops continued to do price match from magazines instead of locally I would have purchased more of my gear from them !

Jessops not accepting vouchers purchased over christmas.

I bet that guy is ****ed! A £500.00 voucher which is now worthless, disgusting that they won't even accept or refund people for giftcards/vouchers

I wasn't far off buying a D800 from Jessops a day or two before it became public about them all closing, they wanted a deposit as didn't have stock. I'm glad I went around the corner to London Camera Exchange now!!!

I walked past the Oxford Street store last night and you could see lots of people working inside, just obscured by temporary screens in the windows.

The larger New Oxford street store remains bare with Xmas deal offer posters in the windows still.
