Joe Rogan and Spotify

got to consider that Rogan (seems to have) made his living out of being provocative no attempt to present (alternative) facts - he knew what he was up to.

mask was a more nuanced discussion - whilst evidence on medical masks was good, priority for limited supplies use in hospitals predominated, so mandating them in public was impossible (unlike asia-pacifics), restrospectively even when they were recommended the home brew ones should have been exposed as less/ineffective and govt should have spent money subsidising decent PPE (like France) would they have cost much more than bounteous lft tests.

... anyway what is the transcript of rogans (accused) racist conversation. supposedly misusing word black - I couldn't find and don't want a trial spotify subscription.

The issue with masks as I understood it wasn't that they were ineffective, it was that an untrained and lax general public were not going to handle, replace, clean them etc. to a rate that was required to be effective in the first place. Most people stuff them in their pocket, touch them, rarely clean them etc. which it could be argued that made them worse than wearing no mask at all. Then throw in the homemade cloth rubbish many are using and it's nothing more than an aesthetic prop.

100% and I do the same and I work with Covid patients/relatives/Solicitors in an Admin role so I really should know better.
I've had the same mask in my pocket for about 2 months and put it on as I enter the building, I throw it on my desk and then pick it up when I go the bog and so on.
Masks 100% work but you have to use them correctly.

In that clip the presenters were saying treat Americans like adults, say masks work but please don't buy them because they are required for health workers and front like workers such as police. The problem is the public won't behave like that. People feel entitled and will still go and purchase masks, some will purchase all they can and then try and sell them at massively inflated prices. You are asking for civic responsibility in a nation that puts the individual first and screw the ones below me.
I'm not denying that people are like that. But the government should have put emergency measures in place to secure the masks needed and advised to public to wear any face covering available, making their own if they had too.

The point is that it was misinformation, and people will have died unnecessarily because of it.

The reason I wear a mask is not only to minimise the risk of me getting it, it's having respect for other people and minimising the risk of me infecting someone else.

Yes but we had/have a PM who is a ******* idiot. A man who refused to stop shaking hands and visited a hospital with coved patients and subsequently caught covid and ended up in hospital. Clearly advice being handed out was in part from a political point of view and not just from what the best science of the time said. That is on us for electing such incompetent leaders. Much like in the US their problem with electing Trump in a time of a pandemic where every move had to be considered politically rather than just scientifically and he flat up refused o wear a mask and kept throwing events at the WH, catching covid himself and ending up in hospital. Even after that he rarely ever worse a mask.
I would have no problem deplatforming this government, they've proved they aren't in any way competent, are corrupt and do not deserve our trust or respect.

Ok, so governments need to come with a misinformation warning? Or just Joe Rogan? Also Joe Biden said vaccines stop the spread of Covid19, so the White House needs to come with a misinformation warning as we've now found out that's false.

Question was about what misinformation, at the time, is now regarded as fact. Maybe get some answers in the morning. Could be 5G related.....

I'm a busy man. I have my own business, hobbies, family etc. I don't spend a lot of time on the internet. This was an hour and a half after you asked the question. Were you sitting by your computer checking to see if you had a reply?

Masks are a pretty obvious one... supposedly they worked in hospitals but when used by the ordinary plebs they magically stopped working. Oh and then later they do work but you don't need anything fancy, not recommending the N95 style ones... But then Omicron comes along and cloth masks might not be so great after all etc..

Total and utter joke, stems not just from supply issues (they could have been upfront and honest about that if it were the case) but also just being in denial that the virus is airborne. Naive belief that aerosol-generating procedures in hospitals require N95s but that it's just droplets we need be concerned about elsewhere, basic masks will do etc..

Before that WHO was even in denial about person-to-person transmission, these days WHO and various governments are still downplaying airborne transmission - upgrading filtration in buildings, fresh air etc.. ought to be a priority but is still undervalued.

The lab leak thing was treated as a conspiracy too yet only later did people start to acknowledge it was a possibility... again what a coincidence, there was a lab in Wuhan conducting gain of function research on coronaviruses. That was deliberately downplayed/dismissed back in 2020.

All this. Facebook was even banning people from posting that the virus coming from a lab. It was considered misinformation at the time and is now seen as the most likely place it came from. There have been so many things that were considered misinformation that isn't now I'm surprised that chroniclard even asked the question.

This isn't what was being said at the start by the 'experts' . This is the point. (the public experts that the govermeant used. Other experts disagreed with them and there are still debates just how effective cloth face masks actually are)

This is why free speech and hearing different opinions are important. We can't just have the government deciding what are facts and what is misinformation. They have been wrong regularly throughout the past two years. We need more conversations with people of different opinions.

So chroniclard, are you happy for the govermeant to decide what are the facts and what is misinformation? Would you be happy for them to control what you must believe even with their track record of being wrong all the time? Or do you get to decide what is misinformation?

I was just commenting on general mask use but yes I agree that the messaging at the beginning of the pandemic was indeed that mask use was essentially pointless. Minusorage linked the video that shows exactly that. Whether this was to potentially protect the sourcing of PPE generally I don't know.

The point some people are trying to make here is that misinformation should be stopped, and this is a clear example of misinformation, so why stop at Jo Rogans Podcast? My suspicion is that this is nothing to do with misinformation but simply silencing a conservative voice with a massive platform that has routinely called out BS on the MSM. He is a thorn in their side and they want him gone.

This mask argument is pretty feeble. Argument seems to be that because some misinformation, out of the tons spewed forth, might end up being true we should allow any old toss to infect the public.

Rogan isn't a thorn in anyone's side.

Why can't anyone shut up about him then? Such a cope lol.

Look I want better, more accurate, more accountable trustworthy news sources for everyone its its very apparent we don't have that currently. Instead of singling out one guy with a mic perhaps they need to look inwards. Isnt that what you want too?

Very good post. You make a good point. Some people will call out the government or Boris on many issues yet suddenly when it comes to covid he's telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth... and people should accept it as fact.

At the end of the day the people advocating censorship are trying to take away other peoples right to listen to alternative opinions.

I don't want to only listen to the official (tory) government position on anything. I want a diverse set of opinions so I can make my own mind up.

Your argument is that you should control what people are allowed to hear, maybe you should go to a country like China or North Korea if you need the government to act as your adult parent

Well, delusional lefties love our government to do everything for them. They have no real free opinion so have to stop others having one. All they want is govern me harder daddy!!!!!

If you want it the other way, and want to live in a country where there are no rules or laws to follow, why don't you go and live in Somalia or Mogadishu? I'm sure you'd like it there.

Why is a stand up comedian/UFC/podcaster constantly on the left MSM news then? Why on earth would they go down the route of "He's taking horse medication". It's a desperate attack. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

I think it's because their ratings have been **** since Trump left office, almost no one is watching them anymore

I can't think of anyone that's called out Johnson on anything who thinks or says he or the government have told the truth about COVID.

Part of the reason why people are vaccine hesitant and don't wear masks properly or when mandated is that the vast majority of people don't think he's ever told the truth about COVID. He/they always locked down too slowly and too hard. Didn't tell the truth about PPE, killed a load of people in care homes out of pure incompetence. The government themselves exhibit the behaviours and attitudes of COVID sceptics until right up until the moment they're faced with hard economic truths.

The public's appetite for vaccines and masks has mostly come in spite of the government and is more to do with people listening to the scientific community. Even if that's through TV briefings with Van Tam and Whitty, or reading the press about what they've said.

I don't, I just want freedom to discuss ideas, even incorrect ones, because the ability to challenge ideas is paramount to an open free society. Nothing you can say is going to change that.

And how are you going to challenge any ideas or strategies on a cutting edge medical subject like a pandemic, for which you likely have zero experience and zero knowledge?

Presumably you're going to step away from your keyboard, and immediately spend the next 5-8 years in academia, studying infectious diseases and virology?

Claiming that experts have a good reason for being dishonest doesn't mean they are not being dishonest.

"In public, Anthony Fauci and Francis Collins urge Americans to “follow the science.” In private, the two sainted public-health officials schemed to quash dissenting views from top scientists. That’s the troubling but fair conclusion from emails obtained recently via the Freedom of Information Act by the American Institute for Economic Research."
