John Lewis adopts gender neutral clothing lines for children

Classic GD is classic.

Go to the gender specific section in one of the hundreds of other high street retailers, problem solved. People complaining about issues that will never, ever effect them in any meaningful way. This isn't being imposed nationwide. No one's forcing you to dress each of your children in identical beige outfits. It's a new line of clothing for parents (and children I might add, because they often make decisions themselves... shocker) to choose from should they, you know, LIKE the style. It's basically as simple as that.

Everything starts from little acorns. :p:rolleyes:

But it's being positioned as some historical groundbreaking feat of human achievement. This is not needed at all, and if you take Jennifer into the store to buy some new clothes and she likes the Captain America t-shirt, buy it for her, no worries. What difference does this make other than be a PR stunt for John Lewis, I guess they want their name in the press more and in the run up for the Christmas ad. As you have said, this changes literally nothing.

They announced a new clothing line... What do you want them to do? Not advertise there products?

It's people like us that are turning it into such a massive talking point.

They did? This is phrased as removing boys and girls labels, why does that require a new line of clothes?

Well, perhaps not a new line design wise, but it's certainly something that required some level of PR work. Imagine if they'd just sneaked the labels onto said clothing. Brigades of offended parents wouldn't know what to avoid!

:p

I would say it good idea as it need change as old type of clothes are outdated so move forward as it's 21st century. I don't see anything wrong with gender clothes. It just clothes to wear. Would u prefer naked without clothes then ???

How does this decision improve peoples lives?

Probably the Kids' as they no longer have to worry about the stigma of wearing "girls/boys" clothes, if they see something they like they should be able to wear it without fear of having the **** ripped out of them by all the offspring of the tattooed Sun readers.

I've no problem with it and I'm not sure what the problem is.

Quite amusing from both sides watching the spin on twitter. From journalists to joe public. It is like watching a slanging match in school. Triggered this, triggered that, whoever is the losing side is the triggered lot.

Funny how so many people can no longer communicate with each other but has to get down to the nitty gritty.

There was an advert for foundation make-up on TV last night when, amongst all the women extolling the virtues of whatever brand it was (think it was L'oreal), up popped a random black bloke.

This isn't about triggering, it's about not telling kids they have to pick dolls over Lego etc. I just want my daughter to be a kid and not care about this sort of stuff until she's older.

I find many of the responses above hilarious, lots of guys feeling a little insecure over kids clothing being made for any kids to wear if they like it..

It is when certain people want to think they're winning arguments. It happens at times on this forum.

I think that's the take away here, you can't have a discussion or debate about anything any more, no matter what side you are on you either a troll/fascist/sexist/racist/bigot these days unless you conform with either side.

I'm struggling to work up any level of outrage at this, there seems to be nothing in this which will dictate how children are dressed, if anything it opens up choice rather than closing it down.

One of my favourite subtitles for this story is:

It must have been a bit of a shock for you when you realised you liked something Piers Morgan says.

Why are these problems happening now? Why was it not happening in the 00's and earlier? Why now? Just like all the statues and whatnot.

When you say problems what are you meaning? I must have missed something about statues. But as a general point it's unlikely that there is anything particularly new here, we (as a society) probably just got better at recognising subtleties to an existing situation. Just because something wasn't acknowledged previously doesn't mean that it didn't exist.

God, made Adam and Eve. Not Adam, Eve and Stevia!

Stevia is a sweetener made from plants so perhaps your god did make stevia.

It's like the whole ******* country has gone bat **** mental..

Yep.

Imma write to JL and ask them why they don't stock baby-grows for full sized men. I chose not to grow up, and now I'm being forced to wear grown-ups' clothes? Disgusting

I think its a fair move. If little girls want Dinosaurs and stuff on their tshirts then they shouldnt have to go into a "boys" section to do so.

It doesnt mean they have to stop making princessy clothes, it just means they just now have the choice of everything without the Boy/Girl title.

OMG DRAMA
