John 'lion heart' Terry Retires From International Football

'John Terry says the FA have made his position untenable, what with their “Kick Racism Out Of Football” campaign and all.'

It's a shame as he's easily the best CB that we have (which, in itself, is worrying). He's not the youngest though.

I'd say Suarez easily gets as much if not more abuse, and there wasn't even any evidence of what he said, I mean we saw what Terry said and also sleeping with his team-mates bird.

Why do people keep peddling this as fact? Just goes to show you how people absorb the front pages but aren't interested in the retractions buried on page 52.

You do realise the story with that Perroncel women was a load of rubbish don't you and a couple of the tabloids had to later apologise to them both and admit is wasn't actually true?

He's been a cracking player for England but at the end of the day I personally believe he's past his best.

When you consider that we should be looking towards the players that will take us into the next international tournament, I don't believe it's any loss. He's had his day, bring someone else in for a go.

So the John Terry affair wasn't true...?

John Terry was obviously bothered enough about the allegation to take out an injunction, and Wayne Bridge seemed to believe it was true too...

lol wut?

I'd be surprised. One good thing to come from this is that if/when Ferdinand isn't called up, the theory that his exclusion was because of Terry can be put to bed.

Do you really think that will affect anything? If Rio Ferdinand isn't called up then is that because he isn't sufficiently reliable for England at the moment or is it because the FA/manager don't want to be seen to acknowledge that John Terry was a reason for Rio Ferdinand not receiving a call up?

The issue is fairly unimportant from my point of view but I don't think it will be as settled as you might wish it to be because the people who believe the exclusion was due to Terry will still believe that, those who think otherwise will still keep to that for the most part I'd suspect.

I thought Suarez had admitted to using the term that Evra found offensive but stated that it had a different meaning in Uruguayan culture than it does in Western Europe? However I don't really want to distract from the thread too much so if it's going to be a long drawn out debate I'll leave it.

Personally think this was the right time - he may well end up playing for Chelsea for another year or two (depending on injuries), and while his reading of games may be good I still think the speed of this still wont allow his body to physically cope much longer after this and international's will only take out even more

England need to start developing younger alternatives for Brazil and beyond that will hopefully stay together for years. Same with Frank and Stevie (who I think are much better players for their positions but still not totally sure what kind of condition they will be in come 2014 )

Caulker for England!

On the pitch Terry was brilliant, but he certainly isnt the player he was, just like Rio, age gets everyone.

Off the pitch I despised the man, good riddance?

Yeah but theres no evidence of it being used in an offensive manner.
