John 'lion heart' Terry Retires From International Football

i just hope he doesn't go into management as when he retires, i don't want to see his gormless looking face ever again.

unless it's on the front page of the sun in 10 yrs time and he's squandered all his money away on gambling.

I've never been convinced by Terry at international level anyway.

His game is suited to the english game where you can be more physical. That kind of stuff gets you punished at European / International level.

Time to start blooding the youngsters so we're ready for the world cup.

Here was the NOTW apology.....

VANESSA PERRONCEL
On January 31 and afterwards we published some personal information about Vanessa Perroncel in articles concerning an alleged affair with the footballer John Terry.

Miss Perroncel has since informed us that she would have preferred her personal information to remain private and it was untrue in any case. We apologise to Miss Perroncel for any distress caused.

In other words, the 'affair' is nothing but tabloid gossip not backed up by anyone including Perroncel or Terry. But sure, go ahead and believe the words of a newspaper that was forced to shut down entirely for being less than honest.

Did they sleep together? Who knows, but what you can't do is use the NOTW headlines way back when as 'proof' that they did or assume they were accurate.

estebanrey are you John Terry in disguise? :p

I can't stand JT, like most people.

But what annoys me just as much as him is when the tabloids fabricate stories which people take as fact and then ignore the impeding retractions later down the line (because the truth is more boring and usually buried in the middle somewhere).

Hopefully this will also rule him out of ever becoming a TV pundit as well, unless its Al Jazzera or some backwater channel no one is ever going to watch. I don't think I could stand seeing his puffy eyed face on MotD for example. Alan Shearer squirms slightly, but gets away with it, when acts of random violence are discussed on MotD, but how on earth could John Terry be involved in a discussion on racism when it raises its head the next time in a game?

BTW I always had Phil Jones down as a like for like replacement for Terry, but he hardly seems to play in central defence, even when he's fit.

the only resemblance jones has to terry is that he looks as equally gormless.

[andy townsend] i like him, he's a good old fashioned centre back [/andy townsend]

shame he doesn't know that old fashioned is a big part of englands problems...

I'm not using tabloid headlines as proof I'm using the fact that Bridge refused to shake his hand when Chelsea played City and then refused to be part of the same England squad as Terry thus removing himself from selection for a major international tournament

Who probably fell for the same headlines you did.

why get the super injunction if it's false

Because he knew people would believe the headlines as is being proved. But to answer your question with a question, why did the NOTW and the Daily Star both print retractions that stated it was "untrue in any case" if they were confident in their story? A Newspaper never prints 'sorry' unless it really has to.

Perhaps because they said something they couldn't prove? Doesn't mean it didn't happen.

If a newspaper is going to publish lies about you, you don't take out an injunction, you sue for libel.

That's like basic celebrity 101.

He was very good and while he's not as good now and a fair few mistakes have crept into his game, worryingly he's better than any other CB available to England.

IMO on 2012 form Jagielka has surpassed him. Very solid when called upon for England of late, even when it was some emergency callup and he wasn't supposed to play he didn't sulk like some players do and put a top performance in. Doing the business at club level too.

When Terry was playing you could make a case for fielding Cole-Terry-Cahill-Johnson because that was 3x Chelsea and 1 ex-Chelsea so in theory a good understanding. Now he's finished it should be a case of pairing either Cahill or Lescott with Jagielka.... maybe some youngster coming through if they prove themselves sufficiently.
