Joining the Army

nope, some guys who joined with me were quiet and shy,m they still done alright and one of them is now a wo1! You just have to be able to handle the discipline and put in the effort

Also, why the is nearest RAF office in Manchester yet the Navy and Army ones are in St Helens and Warrington? FFS. H8 Manchester. >_<

There is a combined Armed Forces Careers Office (AFCO) not too far from the Criminal Courts in Liverpool

I'll be joining the army in November as well, and I'm looking forward to it. Non of these civilian jobs really interest me.

go for it, I did 7 years, 2 as an apprentice, went all over the world, original gulf war, bosnia, falklands, 3 yrs germany... when I recount all the different things I done like climbing, skiing, white water rafting, pulling loads of women and so on, my life now is pretty mundane and boring lol

My eldest is 16 this year and I want him to join on an apprenticeship

I am still friends with guys I served with 20 years ago... says it all really

+1

I did 17 years in the Marines before being injured and despite that I had a whale of a time. Like you say Skiing, Skydiving, Climbing (lots of climbing) and so on.

In comparison, although my wife likes me at home my life is very mundane.

The friends you make in the Forces are your brothers and they stay that way for life.

If you want to be a stuck up ballbag join the paras, marines is where you wanna be, when i did some infantry training, para's used to think they owned the place, pretty fun though with all the rivalry between the infantry and paras, the staff dont get along either lol, i mean infantry staff and para staff, it was a case of, marching past the paras, once the cpl's got a few yards away from each other, theyd both mutter '******' , you get my meaning :p

The Para's are ok for amateurs. ;) They weren't too cocky on a joint ML training exercise back in the day that's for sure.

thats if you want to live in a steel box for days on end, not being able to leave your cabin, ****, Sleep, eat all in that Swetty steal box, no thanks :)

It will make you laugh if you actualy join the army, and see how much crap you were told in the recuitment centre haha, all makes for a good eventfull time though :o:(, all the pay is bull, people allways say, you dont pay for your food, accomodation, or anything, you pay for absolutely everything :D

our cpl's were nobs, we had to steal Milk and **** for them, and also buy them stuff from the shop, not out of there pocket lol, £15 a day easy on them, shocking, but you got no choice, it was a bribes basically.

such a fun time though, and to be honest, we could have had allot worse staff, was pretty awesome, even had a beer in our 4th week :D, staff seargent coulda got the sack for giving it us lmao, its a camp law not to have alcohol for 6 weeks untill you pass off

I'd get started on the application now as it takes ages to get anyway near starting.

I started the application july 2009 and I start basic october this year. 15months in total

Advice people gave me was 'make sure the military isn't the second option!'

It's got to be something you want to do rather than a last option.

Check out Arrse, there's plenty of helpful information there and plenty of Ex and serving squaddies.

Also plenty of throbbers, but hey what ya gonna do!

Definitely, goto arrse. Loads of information.

But yeh, sod the online application, you have to go in anyway, so you may as well fill out all the application in there, plus you can ask questions.

But you will be in for a wait.

It seems to be that the people who really excell and shine get the shorter waiting periods, and even those that do still might have a hefty time ahead of them.
