Joining the Army

See?

I'll just stay where I am. My employer is one of the best if you want to work in retail anyway and the pay isn't bad. I've just applied for a permanent nightcrew job at my store anyway, which is relatively easy and fairly well paid for what it is. £5.93ph + nightcrew bonus, although I was supposed to be moving up the levels to £6.50ph basic pay. Works out at about £15k a year and I've been told by quite a few managers that my name is high up on the list of people to go into a management position as soon as one pops up. I've been there 3 years nearly, know what I'm doing and how everything works like the back of my hand.

I'm not overly bothered on pay, I'm single, no dependants so an average wage is more than enough for me. The army has a decent wage, i'll be on a higher band doing my trade.

But I'm well aware money isn't everything, I hope I don't get into a position where I have to do something I don't like doing just to pay bills.

What happened platypus... I'm not saying it's the same case for everyone, but a few people bring it out the woodwork whenever they find out you are joining.
Rejected due to medication I've taken in the past. The time limit does expire, and I'll re-apply, but you have be no older than 28 before entering Sandhurst, you can be 29 after passing Main Board, so I'm fast running out of time.

What corp are you going into?

at the lower ranks, no there isn't. They want someone who will follow orders, not questin them. Once you progress up the ranks, then yes, of coure there is room for initiative. You will be the man/woman on the ground having to make decisions for your section.
Wow, way to mis-read how the Army works.

Gutted man, was this prescribed after the initial medical?

I'm going Royal Engineers.

I'm not sure how the officer route works? Do you apply for a specific corps? Or can you choose throughout sandhurst? How long is officer training?
