Jordan Peterson thread

It's a free country and he's perfectly within his right to say whatever he wants. Why am I not surprised it's lefties embracing totalitarian regimes re-education camp tactics though.

Yes it is.. but his profession is one that is regulated and if he carries on spouting his BS while using his profession and qualifications as "credibility" you can very easily see why the governing body of such profession(s) may choose to consider expelling him.

Why am I not surprised it's the 'rabid righties' frothing over this and wanting people to be allowed to spout utter BS while using their profession as a shield to hide behind and give credibility to their claims?

Remind us again which party in the UK is trying to introduce draconian legislation to prevent strike action? Is it the "lefties" embracing totalitarian tactics, or once again it's actually the "right" doing exactly what they attempt to accuse "the lefties" of doing?

Apparently this is the now deleted tweet that got him in trouble with the clinical psychologist board or whatever it is.

If you can point out where he is using his profession and qualifications as 'credibility' that would be nice, or are you conflating the fact that he is a clinical psychologist and holds opinions you don't like? As for 'frothing'.. considering it's the usual blue haired left leaning acolytes on twitter that have been raising complaints and I would say only one side is 'frothing' here, so carry on foaming my blue haired friend.

I don't see why anyone would bother watching these podcasters unless they want to pointlessly validate their own thoughts or have no thoughts to begin with.
That's the crack though isn't it... blokes used to lay on the sofa and watch crap telly. Now they tune in Joe Rogan, Peterson, auditor videos etc etc.

Well colour me shocked, that what he did was actually quite stupid, and that it makes absolute sense for the Psychologist Board (presumably from where he gets his credentials) to have a word with him.

He is free to say what he wants, but if what he says is not in accordance with the principals of the organisation that he gets his accreditation from, then he has to deal with the consequences.

Well the guy has said he's more than happy to have the hearing conducted in public, I believe he's actually pushing for it. Guess we can wait and see as to the nature of the complaints.
It isn't for him to push for. He is a member of a society and he plays by their rules, not the other way around.

That's the thing though isn't it. It's become his shtick to claim a false victimhood complex because he's been asked not to be obnoxious to others while flaunting a public show about it. And the show he typically doesn't portray in good faith.

As dlockers says, if the rules of the organisation say the proceedings are to be done in private then Peterson can't force them to be done in public, and there may be elements of the complaint that will be private to protect people.

Peterson's free speech isn't being supressed or anything like that, as he is completely free to say what he wants, but if he wishes to remain an accredited member of the organisation that he uses to give his ideas credibility/legitimacy then he has to abide by the rules of that organisation, so he has the choice to have completely free speech like any idiot but without the creditentials that the organisation gives him, or keep that acreditation.

It's the same as most/all professional organisations, for example your GP can't sleep with you if they want to stay a registered GP (IIRC relationships between GP's and patients are considered serious misconduct), the same is often true for teachers even if the pupil is an adult.

Basically when you join a professional organisation it gives you credibility, helps look after your interests in many things, but also requires you to agree to, and abide by the rules of the organisation.
