Jumping on the bandwagon (Nirvana baby sues Nirvana)

What gets me about this case is that there are more important issues going on, such as the refugees in Afghanistan who are trying to flee the Taliban.

But no, the refugees aren't important enough for me, are they? Instead, let's take the band members (dead or alive) to the cleaners for $150,000 each for some album art that came out 27 years ago. Because that's swell dude.

I hope he gets rinsed and get put onto the sex offender's registry, simply for thinking that the Nirvana album art is child pr0n. He needs to be made an example of.

What the hell.

while i don't believe the chap is in the right on this one i'm not quite sure what the state of afghanistan has got to do with anything - should every other problem in the world stop because of what is happening there?
and why would you wish him to get put onto the sex offenders register - that seems a bit ****** up!

I was comparing the situation with Afghanistan because at one end of the scale, people are desperate for their lives and and at the other end, a guy with first world problems is trying to get a few bucks rather than earning their own start.

Also, the Streisand Effect springs to mind, where he will end up with more unwanted attention than intended.

He deserves everything coming at him.

Still makes no sense. Something bad is happening elsewhere so I must not try to get free extra cash.

I’d better stop doing the lottery then until it’s all sorted in Kabul.

It's a pathetic cash-grab. He's admitted in the past that being the Nirvana baby opened doors to him.

He's going to lose, then get counter sued for libel / slander for insinuating that Nirvana / the record labels are pedos.

He deserves to well and truly rinsed, what a ridiculous case to bring forward. Hopefully the Nirvana peeps have deep pockets to get this well and truly kicked out, and then counter sue.

As someone already mentioned, an image of a naked child or person in itself is not sexual. And trying to link the dollar bill to some kind of sex worker concept is extremely weak.

Would a picture of a naked child next to a dog equate to animal porn? I can’t see this holding up in court…but nothing surprises me really now.

If there's no paperwork of an agreement then it's his word against theirs and to me it just screams of opportunism after years of happily living off the fame and noteriety. Did his parents ever make a big issue of it? if they had a problem with him being shown naked then why go along with a naked photoshoot?

One has to also remember that Nirvana were not a big band before Nevermind came out. Bleach tanked in the US, only selling 40,000 copies. So it's not like they were using it to ride the fame wave.

I think the parents were friends of the photographer who took the photo.

So the photographer knew a couple who'd just had a baby and asked them for the photo opportunity and as Nirvana weren't a househould name they got a $200 payment?

I think the BBC article has been updated as I don't recall seeing this bit earlier. So six years ago he said it's given him opportunities and now he's suing for money because it represents child pornography. This really doesn't look like it's going to go well for him. The Nirvana lawyers must be loving this. It must be like finally getting to use the first thing they learnt at law school for this appears to be such a basic lawsuit to contest/throw out.

"It's always been a positive thing and opened doors for me," he told the Guardian six years ago. "I'm 23 now and an artist, and this story gave me an opportunity to work with Shepard Fairey for five years, which was an awesome experience. He is a huge music connoisseur: when he heard I was the Nirvana baby, he thought that was really cool."

If you read the DM article on it there is an interview with him from 5 years ago. He struggles to string a sentence together and I wouldn't be surprised if he has taken a huge amount of drugs.

Hes also clearly taken advantage of the fact he was the baby on the album cover, he has tattoos referencing it, hes promoted himself based on it and been part of anniversary celebrations. The only way anyone would even know it was him was because he would have told them as well. Apparently women know its him on the cover of the album and try to date him because they think hes rich and then dump him when they realise he isn't. I would say that you couldn't make this stuff up but...

Even in America I imagine this will be thrown out before it even hits the courts.
