Junior Doctors Strikes

No, you said we need to incentivise these poor, yet greedy, Jnr Drs with monies to trick them into working more OT...

Support the strikes but more for improvements in working conditions and the NHS in general with priority going to lower paid positions.

Rather than a large increase in doctors pay I'd rather there were more doctors available, perhaps allowing for reduced working hours so staff have a better work life balance and less likely to be burnt out.

i wonder..................... and i could be way off base as i am not in the profession.

but if the government want more people to go into the profession, maybe it would be better to offer to write off all student education related debts for doctors and nurses after they have put x number of years into the NHS.

While it seems like a good idea, the only thing the Government cares about is money. This method wouldn't maximize their back pockets.

Not in monetary terms, no.

LOL how many nurses you seen rolling around in a 911?
Not many, but I've seen a couple - one in a macan and another in a 911-esque (don't know which model)
Another in a pure mafia-like black f-type with blacked out windows (not a Porsche I know, but still)
So yes

Not a lot seems to get said about this.
My work place is in a similar position and we had bands (So you'd maybe have like 5 rungs on the ladder to go up)

Some of our wage bands have just disappeared with minimum wage and if it continues to go on we'll have whole swathes of jobs on minimum wage that we can't recruit for

That was a similar thing in my old place. They had a 5 tier grading system for shop floor workers. back in 09 I was on £10 an hour which was £4.20 over the minimum wage. The same job today is a little over £12 which is £1.50 over the minimum wage. In the end I was managing these people and it was almost impossible to recruit because all the lower bands are basically the same rate as the ones with more responsibility. Relying daily on overtime just to cover vacancies that couldn't be filled. It was a nightmare with stress as I was expected to make all lines run no matter the cost. I am so glad I got out of that one and it has only gotten worse since I left that sector.

Everyone moans about train drivers wages but they are only fighting for what they should be paid. The richest 1% of people in the UK are now wealthier than 70% of the population combined so there is plenty of money available.

There's scope for high pay in nursing, it's less common than in Doctors but that should get your juices flowing.

I've only known of one JD with a Porsche.
Seen 2-3 consultants with Porsches but they are consultants with lots of private work, rather than NHS only

There's one lovely F-type in the work carpark with the numberplate X999 RAY. I bet it wasn't their NHS work that paid for that :D

Edit - Oddly it's now registered to a Ford Focus, times must be hard, I thought I hadn't seen it in a while.

Weirdly the docs near me seem quite frugal. Part-time golfer drives a golf atm. Single doctor lady a Citroën of all things. The doctor couple have an a4 estate and volvo estate.

Yes, this is how I label them in my head.

We also have 3 nurses, a paramedic couple and a dentist. Can't think of anywhere better to live if I have a medical emergency. There's only 20 houses!

Edit and a gp receptionist who is obviously the most knowledgeable of all of them.

We're a dual doctor family (Consultant and GP) and we don't feel particularly well off but comfortable. I've cleared my uni debt and my wife is almost there.

My parents visited from NZ for the first time in a few years and couldn't understand why we didn't have a posh house :D The days of consultants having million pound houses, gold plated pensions and playing golf are dead.
