Jury Service (Do NOT turn this into a 'how to get out of jury service' thread)

Did you report what she said?

As I'd have guessed that self reporting by the other jurors was the test?

No I didn’t, a) the thought didn’t occur to me, and b), I was born in East London and raised in South London, where I live to this day, and “grassing” to a Londoner is something considered lower down the social scale than paedophilia.

I thought you couldn't talk about it on social media? If someone knows people on here personally then they know they where a jury and some of the info posted on here might end up in trouble.

With the best will in the world B.A., that someone would have to be a world class bored cretin to be so socially aware that he’d drop a dime to The Jury Service and report; “Please Sir, John Doe said on Overclockers that he wasn’t enamoured of the foreman of his jury when he did his jury service.”

So what's being a juror considered as?

By working class Londoners?
As dumb as all get out if he/she couldn’t think of a way of avoiding Jury Service I guess, or completely brain dead if he/she really fancied wasting his/her time doing it.
Conversely those who saw it as their duty and willingly complied are both rare and to be revered, but unlikely to live in a Council flat in Poplar or Bethnal Green.

UK law, obviously and with such a large demograph of folk here, some must have.

Looks like I'm getting called up again oops.

My first instance of JD I tried my very best to worm out of it, asked for DR's note and he point blank said NO. I'm a very shy and reserved person in real life and I respect my Doctors decision and reluctantly went for it.
It was a week long case and I was lucky enough to sit beside and for the duration one of the most Beautiful Woman Ive ever seen, we got a chatting and clicked and I'm happy to report we are partners now ... how lucky was a chance meeting like that?

New Jury duty coming up, like first time have a history of bad ass biker stuff, nothing serious, just wee embarrassing speeding fines and leatherings to opposing bike gang members.
Its all in the past now of course and I quite look fwd to doing Jury Duty again, it gave me a big dose of responsability.

For anyone getting the call up, give it a go, worse things happen at sea.

Teachers Report: Says simplistic non commital generic meme's like OK a lot, highly recommed he is kept back one more year for basic tuition in life.

I got called up in June 2012. Stafford Crown Court.

The waiting area was designed for 20 people standing but was more like 120 standing. Sardines. It was a breeding ground for bugs. I got dismissed on day 2, and then was signed off sick the next few weeks for a chest infection. In the Summer time (June 2012).

Meh I've done an 8 week cpu vat fraud case at the old bailey.

So I get 10/10 for social commitment tbh. I didn't meet my wife but I did find it extremely boring/funny/annoying from day to day.
To commute to st pauls, arrive in court, then be dismissed for the day 2 mins after being seated was fairly infuriating.

Not that it matters now but the judge wrote the jury a lifetime exemption from further service in the UK.

So ok :p

Imagine getting a trial that went on for months... That would be the worst
The second jury in the courts when I did mine had an arson case involving a block of flats with multiple defendants. IIRC, there was about 20-30 victims of said arson and a seemingly never-ending stream of witnesses. They were still listening to the prosecutions case when we finished our jury duty, they hadn't even got to the defence.

Oh yeah I bet that was months. There was a guy in my town who had a trial set for 6 months for fraud. Because the police were dragging there feet so much it got thrown out. Said person got away with it all and all assets got returned.

Im sure they pick on people who live reasonably close to a court.

I live far away from one and have never been called up in the 22 years i have been eligible.
