Just another BSOD thread.

yeah use all the other settings except for these, use these instead

152x 25 cpu multi = 3.8ghz
10x spd system multi = 1520mhz ram speed
21x uncore freq
cpu voltage to normal
intel turbo boost enabled
dvid +0.1000v
qpi/vtt 1.33v

I have just tried the settings you gave me and everything is booting fine etc. but in cpu-z it's showing the clock speed as varying between 1800mhz and 3900mhz which I take it can class this oc as 'unstable' at the moment? The majority of the time it is at 1800mhz

is all the power saving enabled in the bios?

did you set balanced power profile in windows 7 power saving options?

EDIT: make sure c3/c6 and eist are enabled in the bios

that's the way it should overclock now 3.8ghz at load and 1800mhz idle with less than 1v

This, try running Prime95 for half an hour.

Yep those are all set. Occasionally it will go up to just below 4ghz but at the moment I am just watching a video through media player so perhaps that is why it only needs 1.8ghz

I will try prime95 asap, cheers

it varies with the load, I think it bumps up to 4ghz if only one core is being used, this is all down to the load and the power saving it uses more cores if needed ect

Prime95 has been running a little under an hour now and cpu-z has been showing almost exactly 3.8ghz the entire time. Am I supposed to get some results from prime95 or is the fact that the pc has been completely stable all I need to know?

its just to find out if its stable enough, what are your temps like?

some of the workers will stop if its not stable

Speedfan is showing me between 75-79 for the cpu, under normal circumstances I would be worried but perhaps with prime95 running I should expect the temps to get that high?

seems about right for that speed and chip, you can stop prime95 if you want, just use pc as normal and post back if it crashes, you might be able to lower voltages later on and reduce temps further

anything below 80c is ok,with odd spikes to 82-85c

it won't get that hot in gaming/normal use

It is around 70-77 now an it has not gone above 79 once. I will close prime95 now then and start getting all my backup files loaded up.

If I am gaming will the pc automatically use 3.8ghz in order to get the best performance from the game?

Also if I were to re-install windows again at any point in the future would I need to change any settings with regards to the oc?

yes that's the whole idea of using dvid,it will auto switch to full speed depending on what you do,gaming ect

what are you idle temps like? they should be around 35-40c idle

and no you can just re install windows, you can backup that overclock with @bios,click save bios to diek and you can flash it if needed and it will set the 3.8ghz oc

My temps now after closing prime95 a few minutes ago are between 30 and 36 so seems good there. I will save the overclock just in case.

Well it looks like this annoying few days of computer trouble is finally fixed but I will continue to run the pc today just to make sure everything is good.

Thanks for all the help mate.

yeah sorry I meant dvid,qpi/vtt you might need the same but try dvid first then qpi later or else it will be confusing if it crashes
