Just another BSOD thread.

124 is not enough qpi/vtt voltage so I would set that to 1.36v now

it will take a while to get it stable as with any oc

try 1.375v for now, don't worry about the pink, max safe is 1.4v and ive seen plenty run a lot more without any issue

if its stable you can try next one down 1.355v

It did boot again but froze completely after a few seconds but did not bsod. When I restarted it didn't manage to boot all the way but just froze on the 'start windows normally or in safe mode' screen. The third time It did boot but at a much slower speed my mouse/keyboard did not work at any point during the bootup however it did boot all the way and everything worked fine for a little longer but has frozen again without bsod.

its usually memory if its freezing

what timings did you set for memory?

could try with two more clicks of qpi/vtt voltage

CAS Latency Time .....................8
tRCD .......................................8
tRP .........................................8
tRAS .......................................24

Advanced timing I just left as auto.

Those are all set and the qpi/vtt is 1.395 which is 1 setting above 1.375. It did boot but froze again after a few minutes. I might just think about resetting everything and leaving it at 3.2ghz as it seems to be consistently unstable.

you can try for 3.8ghz,it seems to need a lot of voltage for 4ghz but that could be down to your cpu

ill give you a 3.8ghz oc later if you want

you say it was clocked to 4ghz before? they probably used a fixed cpu voltage though

Yeah the performance I was having before with the 4ghz was great so it would be a shame to revert all the way back to 3.2 perhaps 3.8 would be a good compromise. In the mean time to reset everything is there an option in the bios? f6: fail safe defaults or f7: optimized defaults? If I reset everything I take it I should still leave the qpi/vtt to 1.315?

load optimised defaults and yeah for qpi

you can try with a fixed cpu voltage but cpu won't downclock at idle, fixed tends to use slightly less than dvid would to remain stable

EDIT you will overclock it it just takes time and patience

I did load the optimised defaults but the cpu and everything is still running at 4ghz. The multiplier, bclk and other settins has stayed the same. Completely default bios settings would be ideal then I can work on the oc later.

you can clear cmos then, either at the back if your board has the button or popping out the mb battery for a few minutes, then re enter any bios settings you need, ahci and qpi/vtt voltage ect

Yeah I've got the battery out so will leave that for a few minutes. The only setting I know I need at the moment is the qpi/vtt so I will just leave everything else I think. Maybe 3.8ghz would be slightly more stable.
Thanks for all the help wazza.

Okay now upon startup the keyboard/mouse will not work and I can only enter startup repair where it wants to do a system restore. I can't even get into bios

EDIT- I took at the battery again and when I put it back in I was able to enter the bios immediately but after changing the qpi/vtt I am then unable to select 'boot windows normally' as the keyboard ceases to work however the keyboard and mouse work when system repair starts.

It has booted now but that was some strange behaviour.

is your kb/mouse usb? id forgotten on x58 you have to enable usb mouse/keyboard in the bios,or it will default to ps2

sorry I couldn't get 4ghz for you im sure you could if you tested with a fixed cpu voltage

all cmos clear does is reset the bios,it won't harm anything

Its wireless with the 'wireless signal' coming from the hub plugged in via usb. It's strange but anyways everything is working great now. Don't worry about it you have got my pc back up and running and as long as its stable at 3.2 I am happier than if I'm getting constant crashing or bluescreens with 4ghz. I may think about moving up to 3.8 but I'll have a think. Is there a place to get all the right settings without having to keep nagging you as you have given me more than enough help.
Cheers

I don't know any I used to help a lot on tweaktown forums few years ago when I had my x58 board but I don't know if google would bring my old posts up

I can try for 3.6ghz/3.8ghz though

3.8ghz

152x 25 cpu multi = 3.8ghz
10x spd system multi = 1520mhz ram speed
21x uncore freq
cpu voltage to normal
intel turbo boost enabled
dvid +0.1000v
qpi/vtt 1.33v

try those
