Just Arrived! VSonic VSD3S

Good! Let us know what you think Ducky :)

Little update on my end, I'm getting the ends of my pair re-terminated with a Neutriks L-plug (£6.50 inc labour from designacable.com, great guys, really friendly). Should help prevent any more cable issues. I've also got a new cable on the way from LMURE.

Tomorrow, probably. That suggests to me that they're just reached the UK and are on their way to the RM sorting office.

Pleasure Ducky, cable is interesting. I don't know what the none-detachable cables are like strain relief-wise - the terminus on my set was crap (hence me getting it reterminated) but VSonic have said they have amended it... I actually prefer 90' connectors, makes snapping the cable at the terminus much harder. With regards to the ear guides, I've never felt the need to use them on any IEM set and believebthe cable will be better as its lighter and thinner than the guide so less likely to irritate.

Interesting. They appear to have lengthened the strain relief on the terminus but have still left it squared off at 90'... My nodded cable was despatched yesterday, hopefully with me today and I'll get some pics up.

LMUREs should give me a discount at the very least! :p

Minstadave, most tips fit on them, the nozzle size is fairly standard. I've had Shire Olives on mine as well as both old and new VSonics and the tips from my old Fischer Audios. Comply foam tips will also fit if that's what you're looking for (though I prefer the Olives).

Some do seem to have sibilance. You could always drop the very top end of the treble off a bit with some eqing.

Vocals and recessed in the same sentence when talking about the VSD3S? Waaah? Can't agree with that at all. The solution though, would be more EQing - just remember to always cut frequencies and try and avoid boosting them.

Just get the current one re-terminated. Mine cost me £7.50 from designacable and it was done in three days. £7 of that cost was for the Neutriks 90' terminus.

90' terminus means its damned near impossible to destroy in pockets. Gunna be cheaper than rebuying anything and quicker than getting a replacement set from LMURs and give you a better end product.

These IEMs really shine with an amp, adding that bit more detail retrieval and a bit more weight to the bass.

Its rather obvious which side is which, as they only fit one way! :p

If you're really struggling, put the cable over the top of your ear and one if the earphones will point into your ear and then other will point away - that should give you some clue :p

That's a tough one. The Yuin range is about the only one I know of that has 'decent' earbuds - look at their PK2s or 3s.

So after a horrible few days of not having my VSonics - thought I'd lost them, its been tragic - I miraculously found them. You might be wondering what this has to do with anything, but as I thought I'd lost them I put in an order from Lend Me Ur Ears on the 31st of Oct (for some refurbished GR06's (£20 - INSANE BARGAIN)), which were my staple before the VSD3-S - they arrived at home at midday on the 5th.

If the delivery from Singapore is a reason you dont want to buy from this e-tailer then you really should reconsider.

I like the current foam tips. If you dont get along with them then the Sure Olives are the best foam tips I've come across (search this thread for links etc). Failing that Comply Foam tips are -always- a good bet.

Regarding insulation, in theory the foam tips will as they'll give the best seal - which is what isolation is dependent. I'd rate the rubber tips as have a 3-3.5/5 rating for isolation, jumping to 4-4.5 with varying foam tips on.

That's the way they designed to be worn. The way you're used to wearing them is known as 'cable-down' (an intuitive name as the cable points down) - whereas on these and other IEM designs they are meant to be worn "over-the-ear" (so the cable comes out of the top of the housing and points towards the front of your head before winding back over and around your ear before running the normal course back to the source (phone/mp3 etc).

I can get some pictures for you later if that helps :)

EDIT: Pic :)

The advantage of over-the-ear is that is offers a more secure fit and substantially reduces microphonics - that really annoying noise you get when something rubs on your cable.

Regarding tips, I have very small ear canals so I too use the very small tips. You want to be using a tip that gives you the best insertion and seal (some find best seal from shallow tips, others require them deeper, some middling etc, its all about experimentation till you find what works for you) :)

I have the exact IEM, trust me, they fit the same way. I'll show you a pic in the morning, hopefully, if I remember :p Might help if you do that, actually, then we can see if there is anything you're doing wrong :)

Okay dokay. Well, you have the right idea/placement. If that doesn't feel secure then I would be inclined to say you might have bad insertion depth - try a different tip, see if that helps.

Try the foam tips? Give them a good roll between your fingers, insert them (be quick about it, so they dont expand before getting into your ear canal) and then let them expand. Should be the most secure of fits.
