Sorry tech speak, Digital MultiMeter

You can't be sure the software monitor is correct, they can be miles out. But the 12v you give there looks low.
ok well i checked in my BIOS, and its more or less the exact same readings, is BIOS more accurate?

but anyway to get to the point, do i start looking for another PSU now before i get the card, if yes, which would you recommend (preferrably with LED :D )?

or is it more then likely everything will be ok with my current PSU

thanks

Nope, polls the same sensors as the monitor apps.

With LED's, OCZ 520w? I'd recommend voltage stability more than lights :D

Wait and see, if it's not up to it, it'll be the overclock that does it.

ok cool

theres a OCZ ModStream 520w in the clearance section right now for £47.00 Including VAT

it says its ATX2.2, my current is 2.0, is this fine?

i read a review here and it says overall its a good buy, but the 12v rail dipped to 11.80 under load, which is better then the 11.58 im on now...but is it sill ok though?

just to put my mind at rest also, is there any non-led PSU, for the same price, that would perform better, or would it be a similar performance anyway

Yeah it's fine, its based on the Topower P5 same as the Tagan's IIRC. But its not that far at 28A from your own.

You pay for the bling, for the same price a plain unit should be better quality. But, for £47 you won't do better tbh. If you want a bit more headroom then the Hiper-R 580W is in that price range at 30A, but you do read of a few dying. If it were me I'd stump up a bit more and look at OCZ (powerstream), FSP (Epsilon) , Enermax (Liberty), Tagan's, Seasonic (S12-500) or even the Silverstone from above. Take your time and read up on them, it should last for a few PC's to come. A lot of 480w units will run your spec, but a bigger unit will cost the same to run. And have more stability at high loads.

I had the Silverstone ZEUS ST65ZF wich is a higher rated PSU at 650 watts, it could not cope with crossfire 2x1900xt it would shutdown after 2 mins.
IIRC Not a power issue. That was a rail cross-loading problem and it was fixed on the next revision.

"512MB gaming cards in SLI/CrossFire will pull anywhere from around 15A to slightly over 20A (taking 120W divided by 12V = 10A per card) meaning that our +12V3 rail was overloaded as it has to share the power draw from the motherboard as well (which typically draws around 2 ~ 3A on its own). Since we rate our power supplies conservatively, the ST60F could actually run Kelt's 7800GTX 512MB SLI system for a while despite being technically overloaded on the +12V3 rail. As soon as the over current protection point of 20A on the +12V3 is reached, the power will automatically shut down.

To prevent this from happening again, we will make the following change to ST65ZF and ST60F:

+12V1(13A) : CPU1
+12V2(18A) : CPU2+SATA
+12V3(16A) : MB+VGA1
+12V4(18A) : HDD+VGA2

The original version of ST65ZF is capable powering a fully loaded Multi-GPU system equipped with either 7800GTX 256MB or X850XT 256MB. This version of power supply can be identified by the surface coating, which have “shinny” galvanized coating.

Newly revised ST65ZF(released in summer 2005)and all ST60F are capable of supporting fully loaded Multi-GPU systems running 7800GTX 512MB or X1900XTX cards if 4pin to 6pin PCI-E adapter is used on one of the cards. These can be easily identified from the original ST65ZF by its surface coating, they have a flat, black paint finish as opposed to galvanized coating.

Yeah i know things have changed on the silverstone range but all the same it was a shock.
I bought it at jan 2006 but looking at the box it says issued feb 05 lol.

My Enermax Liberty 620 is now doing great with way less noise

Also with way less 12v current and half the rails.

Defects happen, a whole first batch of the latest 900W Tagans were just recalled. It's how the manufacturer deals with it that interests me tbh.

I got my system with the Epsilon 700W thingy. Tis a amazing PSU. Loads of connectors and it makes it very easy to use even if its not modular. Recommend it!
