Just built new pc, boot device led has light up red. HELP?

All power connections connected including the 8 pin for cpu power and both power for graphics card.

Also try a CMOS reset and possibly try with only one memory module.

okay well it now boots into bios but cant find my optical drive as a boot option, just doubl checked all cables are plugged into it etc...

Might be worth double checking the power connections, i know I have had this issue on the past, a quick removal and re connect all worked ok.

back to square one. the boot device led has no stoped lighting up but now the vga led is lighting up red and i get no display?+checked all power connections for everything.

Sounds like a RAM or video card issue. Are you sure you have the appropriate power connectors to the video card? Sure the RAM is fully seated in the slots? It could also be a short somewhere - sure there's not a stray screw behind the motherboard or anything?

All you can do is the standard trial and error procedure in these circumstances. Take the mobo out and try booting it with the just the bare essentials plugged-in - hopefully you can isolate the problem. If it appears to be random then it's probably a bad motherboard or PSU.

okay thanks. Thought id try onboard gpu before i take everything out the case. Will the onboard graphics just take over if i remove my gpu?

I think so - if not you might have to reset the BIOS. There will either be a jumper or just pull the battery.

Edit* just tried that but still no avail. The GPU led is still red even though there isnt even a gpu in there?

Got a mate with a PC you can test parts in?

I'm thinking duff motherboard, but it's hard to tell without being able to test each part.

Hmm, no not really:/ Just rebuilt the entire thing to make sure there was nothing behind the mobo and there wasn't. All the fans come on etc but there is no post. The VGA led lights up red which means thats the problem. also i reset bios/cleared cmos to no avail and i also cant seem to get it to run off the onboard gpu.

Sound like the mobo. Could possibly be the PSU, but it doesn't sound like that to me. I'd get the mobo replaced and hopefully that will be the end of it.

i would have thought GPU? because it's the gpu led thats on which is showing error? Although i dont know much so im probably wrong :D

Because the light is next toi the gpu slot, doesn't mean it's the gpu led. Check the test next to the led on the board. Also, is there a beeping sequence?
