Just Cause 2

Yes they are scattered around the map in some bases.

Not sure what bases though lol. I attacked a base yesterday and there was an armoured helicopter on there; however if you get attacked by one just hijack it. :p :)

I spent about 15 minutes flying one from the first base over to far side of the map! Didnt think about hijacking one though - thanks!! :D

I really fancy getting this game for my hols. Will it work ok on a i7 820qm and 5870 mobile equipped laptop?

Cant wait to spend a bit more time on this, Just had a quick mess around.

Very impressed, Except..

Couldn't move, Or do anything at all apart from exit out :D

It makes sense you can only start in "Friendly" captured areas.

Makes sense in what way? I know you're a huge fan of this game, and will defend it to the hilt. That much is obvious from reading your posts in this thread.

However, I fail to see how this game, which is hardly intended to be realistic or sensible in the first place, benefits from chucking you back to the nearest safe point acquired. It should load in exactly the situation in which it was saved. When you say it makes sense, I presume you refer to the idea that you should only be able to spawn in areas in which it is tactically safe to. But why should what makes practical sense take precedent over fun and convenience in a game like this?

Yes, to aid steam cloud probably. Being able to save anywhere would significantly increase the save size.

To aid Steam cloud? Surely the game saves to your local disk drive?

Compared to the install size, is a save game file size really that significant when there are only about 12 slots anyway?

But then it uploads them. Given how slow most peoples upload speeds are, each time it saves you dont want it uploading lots of MBs. Plus it would kill most servers.

My feeling in that you always start in a safe area...you should only be able to save in a safe area as well, similar to GTA...in your house/apartment. That way you'd get better continuity.

However dying in this game doesn't seem to have any consequence so it's not a biggie!

I had no idea it did that and I have no idea why it needs to exclusively do it, either. Is that so that people won't lose their saves when they reformat?

If so, I'd personally rather have a decent save game system and have to remember to back up my own games, than use the one they currently employ. Besides, there's no obvious reason why they can't upload the autosave files but still allow users to save the large files to their own computer.

Better continuity would surely be to continue from where you left off . How do you get better continuity by having to go back to a safe house?

Well, wandering around the civilian settlements is "safe" as you don't get aggro so I don't see why you can't save there. I can understand not saving if you have aggro or if you're in the middle of a military base, but.. meh.
