Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

The S-02 was an excellent all round road tyre which worked well in both the wet and dry. It was the late '90s/early '00s equivalent to the Eagle F1, repeatedly winning things like the Autocar tyre test.
I guess my comment was aimed more at the feel of the tyre as both have very stiff sidewalls.

The S02 is jokingly known as widow makers on S2000 forums as the Honda specific ones were crap in the cold and wet. The S2000 is a very tyre sensitive car though.

Just read a bit on the RE002 and they sound similar although if expect them to be better than the S02 due to tread, people say they are worse than RE050As in the wet. In my experience the RE050As are crap in wet compared to F1AS2s.

The RE002 do sound suited to this application though. Dry and track use.

Agree with the sidewalls, they really were stiff. My old Saab 900 T16S loved the tyre as the rear suspension has a lot of roll stifness and so would really load the outside tyre. In many ways the S-03 that replaced it wasn't as good (certainly in my application), and wasn't as far ahead of the opposition when it was released as the S-02 was.

I vote ad08r, the original were a tremendous all rounder. Will most likely get a set for the s15. Bought some re002 for the bmw, getting them on tomorrow so will see what they are like.

I'd be very interested to hear your experiences of the re002, i'm currently eyeing them up for the wifes clio 197.

Well, just got back in. Done 80 miles on the RE002 including one of my favourite winding roads. Initial impression is it's a very nice tyre, gives a confident grip in the terrible conditions (far better than RE070, the only other Potenza I have used), typical Bridgestone stiff construction so it feels great. Not as stiff as RE070, I'd say on par with AD08 however these tyres are considerably lighter than the equivalent AD08, feels like almost half the weight!
I'll have to get back to you on how they do in the dry.
One thing I noticed is that that steering has become noticeably lighter at parking speed even at the same pressure, not sure what that's about, can't complain though.
They fit nicely on the rims, not a concern for most I suppose but Eagle F1's big bulging sidewalls won't clear my coilovers on the et33 Schnitzer wheels so it is a concern for me.

Give them another 300 miles. Surprised you pushed them when they are still full of release agent.

Someone commented on similar about the lighter steering too.

Will be honest, despite people on the internet saying how terrible the AD08 is in the wet, I can confidently say it is the best all round tyre I have ever used. The RE050A I had before were great but not a patch on AD08 capability in dry conditions and they lag behind in wet conditions too.

OT a little...
Simon, you mention the S2000 to be very tyre sensitive, what models have you found work well over the years of ownership on your car?

Just changed rear offside tyre for a spare one I had as it was barely legal and had a screw in it.

So thought good time to weigh the wheel, discover two downsides:-

Wheel - 11-12kg
Tyre - 11-12kg

So I've got lead for wheels and the tyres are also heavier than usual.

Can easily save 5kg per corner, that would in short make a huge difference, best add a set of wheels to the shopping list, which could mean find some genuine 19" CSL wheels and fit with the SuperSports I so want, something to do mid-end year though, gonna do a track day or two and finish the Federals off first. :)

Think when it comes to changing wheels later in year, these are a firm favourite:-

Around 8-8.5kg a wheel, could go with 18x9 all round or 18x9.5 with a 265/35/18 square setup tyre wise. :)

What do people think, silver looks good, black kind of looks lost I think, darker silver or gunmental could be best colour?

Wasn't it only a couple of pages ago that you were finished with weight reduction and modifications?

I think someone's got a bit of an addiction going on here! :D

Quite understandable though!!!

Change the wheels mid-end of year, get some track days in first, but when it comes to new tyres, might as well get wheels to suit as well, that's my excuse anyway. :D

I want a M3 CSL - stop showing pictures like that!

Sorry Simon:-

Think those are Hyperblack and Bronze in colour, think they look amazing.

Think dark silver/hyperblack is a better choice due to brake dust. Bronze looks pretty good too.

Think Silver and black are a no go!
