Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

Alternatively, have it high up on lowering springs in the 3k range and wallow it around?

I don't know, why don't you call up Spires and tell them they are doing it all wrong?

Seriously, shut up.

Nah just fed up of people going on about ride hight as if it's the be all and end all.

deck it m8

yeah slammed lifestyle innit

low 'n' slow

gibbo already said it was going on coilovers, so i dont really see what the issue is?

of course a car with its whole interior removed will sit a bit higher regardless of lowering springs.

its hardly shock of the century is it.

Suspension IS the be all and end all of a track car though. Al Clarks M3 I posted above is probably the most highly developed M3 track day car in the UK. You are pretty keen to can it though, you must know better?

My car is as low as that, has near 6" travel in it, problem??

MilanoChris, that car will be stiff as hell, the big arch gap will be to do with regulations and the spec suspension they are forced to use. Look back to the supertourer generation where they were free, the cars were as low as they could get them even if it meant having to totally redesign whole subframes and suspension systems.

Yeah and you spend every track day sideways with hideous amounts of oversteer, so much so you got black flagged IRIC?

Is that down to ride hight, or the roll centre, camber, caster, spring rate, damping rate, and the 100s of other factors that make a good suspension setup?

and looking at other pictures of his car, the rear wheel isn't tucked in like that when out on track, so he's probably just slammed it for the road.

It will have poly or solid bushes, of course it will be mega stiff, but there will be travel in the suspension (more than people appreciate), otherwise it isn't doing anything. :D

barry beemerz

the car is going on coilovers. gibbo will have it slammed

and all will be well with the world

That photo was taken after finishing up a day at Donington. Not sure what your point is. The car isn't even used on the road.
How it looks now.. http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums...2D2C69-10001-000009080C015FD2_zpseae33bcc.jpg

Like you said, geo, springs and dampers are the where the interesting stuff actually is. Coilovers are at the heart of this and there is no reason to run up in the sky.

I picked up on it because this is a track car, and no sorted track car suspension would run this much height. You on the other hand are just clutching at straws and proving you know little about the subject.

My car goes around trackdays in a frenzy of oversteer because it's fun. Do you genuinely think the car ride height is holding it back from being driven cleanly? If so then you are even more naive than I first thought.

Nah, 6k fitted, no way when the car pretty much cost me 6k.

Performance mods I will do is:-

100 cell cats - £300, better response - 5-10BHP
Re-fit stock intake with element filter - £50

Then if I feeling flush at somepoint and crazy:-
GSL/CSL airbox, Alpha-N mapping, Evolve Remap - £1770 - So probably won't do unless someone sells the airbox second hand at a good price so it works out less than a grand to do.

Above takes them to 360-370BHP as long as engine/vanos is operating as should do.

1300kg is definitely possible, guy on M3 forum is at 1300kg with SMG, stock doors, stock panels, stock exhaust, just interior, seats and wheels.

So my long term aim shall be 1200-1250kg and if I get it to 360BHP, that's a nice 300BHP per tonne. :D

Could always sell a few of the Porsche performance bits that you got good deals on and buy the equivalent BMW bits?

Nice car anyway, and I loved the SMG on the M6, brutal gear changes even if they are not as fast as a DCT :D

Look forward to seeing the updates.

Lap Times as you progress would be good.

No it's probably down to lack of ability because it looked like you were going to oversteer off the face of the planet every time you hit the exit of Redgate at Donington.

Yeah that was a talent fail, every time though? That only happened once. I push my abilities and learn from experience, I suppose you can find a way to criticise that too.
