Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

At some point I'll make one of these OcUK track days! Would love to see what this M3 can do mate. Very interesting "project" too.

Wanted a change and a 911.
EVO X is by far the best and most capable road car I've ever owned, on a crap road full of bumps, holes and cambers the EVO X is by far the most capable car I've driven but also very easy to drive fast and not that challenging. A smooth road/circuit the 911 is more capable, certainly circuit and the 911 is very challenging to drive in comparison.

Thanks for that, I'm tempted to save a bit longer for an X as I do prefer them aesthetically and would like the built in Nav and Fosgate bits.

The X has the best setup out the box for UK roads for sure. Got a friend who actually is a race driver and has owned pretty much every EVO generation and he said as a car out the box for UK roads, the X is the best of them all. However his favourite EVO is the IX (9) as its raw along with best engine/turbo.

But for sure as an A-B weapon the X is pretty much the best thing I've ever driven, so planted, does not get upset by bumps or crap roads. :)

.Heard wet/dry they are great. They are circa £150 a corner, if AD08's are similar, come change time I shall move to AD08's or R888s. But ideally I shall pickup a set of cheap M3 road wheels/tyres and move to full racing slicks which are sub £100 a corner and far far stickier. :D

A048 would be the Yokahama equivalent to the R888. Supposed to be a better tyre than the R888 but more expensive. Cost has put me off trying them so far but I'd like to, for the size I want on the MR2 (205/50/15) an R888 is about £130, the A048 is £200

Which is handy as Wiltshire council apparently don't have a budget for repairing roads around here. Sorry to harp on in this thread but did yours have a 'proper' manual gearboxes or the flappy one? Is the SST model the one with those boxes?

Manual.

The SST is not so good on the EVO, at junctions for pulling off it is very slow in reacting to when you actually press the accelerator. Up/down changes are OK but again not so quick. A remap really sorts the auto box out, plus its had a few issues too.

Manual all the way in the EVO.

Love it, always wanted an E46 M3 :)

Yeah what is really bad though, within 10 minutes of the journey back I'd selected Sport, DSC off and S6, oooops. :D

Those upshifts. Shall try to get the CSL firmware on it before next weekend and strip the front interior this weekend and a good cleaning. :)

Looks like a fun little project, as I have been to your house Gibbo I fear you may need a bigger drive way now. ;)

We've trashed the thread enough. It's high because it's been stripped out and it's just on lowering springs, he's going to fix it.

Wow there is some real lack of talent from other drivers in those videos! I'm surprised there are no incidents.

That BMW is terrible, clearly attempting a power slide for some reason, with complete lack of control. Glad I didn't go when you see driving standards that low.

Wow, better bow down to ross then, clearly a driving god in our midst.

Why judge my level of driving ability from a video compilation of horsing around doing stupid skids then? Did you even watch the rest of the video? All of those slides are with complete lack of control are they? One momentary lapse of control and you come out with all that nonsense. Total lack of control would have resulted in a spin and/or leaving the track fwiw, I brought it back, and kept my foot in.
I did a tiny bit too much of a lift with a lot more rear grip than I usually have for drift and the car straightened quick sharp style. A simple mistake and know next time never to lift when running 245 section ad08 and not much power.

Believe it or not, I did some slidey stuff because it is fun, if you can't appreciate that then I feel sorry for you. Don't bother lecturing me about doing it in front of other people either, the cam car was a friend.

When have I been lecturing you?

I didn't even realise it was you until you piped up on here in a defensive manor, justifying the lack of control shown in the video.

Aren't you the same person that smashed into a wall and ripped the front bumper off?

Show me a drifter which hasn't had the bumper off?

I appreciate drifting, but I personally don't want to see it done on a trackday. Unless it was a dedicated drifting trackday.

If I were there and people were dicking about then I'd pull into the pits, but then I'd be annoyed that I'd paid good money to come here, and for it to be ruined by people putting me off.

I've watched plenty of videos from OCUK trackdays and I've seen a lot of good driving (Gibbo as an example) and would have no qualms about sharing a track with them. However I certainly don't want to be going through redgate at 50-60 to see a green BMW sideways then getting tail slappy.

You seriously need to lighten up then.
