Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

I'd be tempted to try fitting the wings as they are (ie not painted) - probably would look slightly odd but you never know with the carbon wrap on the roof :D:p

No would look odd for sure, roofs being different colour from rest of car is quite normal, I wanted to try either carbon or gloss black wrap, happy with carbon effect considering car has so much other carbon bits all over it, even if the roof is just a vinyl. I knew it would not be to everyones taste and the M3 has turned from a dedicated track car to now my daily car as well so am just making it look how I want. :)

The wings I think would look so out of place in there natural carbon state, but at the same time I am reluctant to get them painted as they probably won't be an exact colour match due to being a different base material compared to bonnet, doors etc. So a full car wrap is in consideration but not carbon, some stupid insane colour, but I need to view a few examples of wrapped cars because if wraps look tatty it is not for me, but so far wraps done correct seem to look pretty incredible, like a good paint job. :)

How to tell the world you have a carbon vinyls roof.... Roof ditch finishers :p

Know your having a joke, but no idea what you mean by roof ditch finishers, LOL. :D

Those trackday window stickers must add a few extra BHP too :p

I am lazy, cannot be bothered pulling them off, seems Javelin use much better adhesive compared to book-a-track as those came of when I washed the car, but Javelin stickers are clearly not just for Christmas but for life. :D

Javelin ones peeled off mine easily enough!

will be interesting to see original times set when car was brought to car upgrades on tracks.

see if the pay out has been worth it.

One of my CSL mates had a good blast in my car a few months ago for a few hours, he came back saying it goes in a straight line faster, corners harder and better and stops much better. :)

I was down to 1:21 on cups with less power, more weight and a taller final ratio. I am now on regular road tyres as the car is now used as my daily so I needed a good wet tyre also, so I will be hoping to match my previous time or do better on regular road tyres. Once the tyres are shot I might give cup2 a try, gone of the idea of slicks simply as they are only about setting times but remove an element of fun, predictability and enjoyment.

Shall have to see, but times aside the car is a sheer joy to drive, its brilliant and so well mannered on the road and still retains so much comfort and refinement, really have managed to build a car with best of both worlds. :)

But when I want it well it does the biggest slides and skidz, complete hooligan. :D

Happy Xmas! :)

Hi there

Not really posted an update for a very long time, M3 was moved to a daily car when the 911 went so was used every day, never put a foot wrong and for such a capable track car that is also lots of fun it is also fine as a daily car, it still has refinement and some element of comfort, thats BMW for you.

When the Mustang arrived the M3 has seen very little use, typically just a weekend blast every other week with updates and further upgrades put on hold as I simply love driving the Mustang.

Unfortunately the Mustang developed a hole in the oil cooler so is with Ford for repair, as such the BMW got some TLC this weekend:

Though it is refined, getting back into after so long it really does feel like a race car in comparison to the Mustang, so light on its feet and such an occasion to drive. Was experiencing quite a lot of understeer but then I remember I took all the front camber out and really softened up the KW's for winter driving. So re-set the camber and re-setup the dampers, much better, great turn in and fantastic grip, though car is very playful and progressive. Shall get the alignment double checked on a Hunter tomorrow.

As it looks unlikely the Mustang shall be fixed this week in time for NC500, I shall be taking the M3 instead, not what I'd really hoped up but on some of the narrow bumpy Scottish back roads I am sure the BMW will feel more at home than the Mustang would, though my spine probably won't thank me for it. :D

Looking great still :)

What a hardship it must be to have an M3 as the backup car :p

Enjoy!

I can't complain, I'd forgotton how good it was to be honest. Also makes me tempted to try KW's on the Mustang as the damping and comfort really is super impressive.

But I'd be wasting money most likely, think now the Mustang can stay as it is because if rumours are true in 2018 it is going because I shall either get a GT 350 or just trade in against a new 2018 built Mustang with the 10-speed DCT auto and then I shall fit KW's to that one. :)

Hmm I see you've put the door bits back on?

Yes as I was using it every day I wanted some comfort added back in and somewhere to rest my arm whilst driving is nice to have. Plus passengers really do not get on so well with door cards and pull ribbons.

To swap them over takes 20-30 minutes so its no big deal, but with them the car is nicer and more comfortable and on the road I am not going to notice the 18kg they add.

Kudos for keeping the M3 and amazing to see how well it's still holding up..

Surprised the door cards add that much weight! - I always thought them light and flimsy on my old - albeit 4 door - e46.

Just out of curiosity, which is the better car overall from a sense of occasion and seat of the pants? I'm guessing it would be the M3?

I drive the Mustang more, is that because its more of an occaison or just more practical and nicer place to be, that is hard to answer.

The M3 is fun, but so is the Mustang, as a road car I prefer driving the Mustang, if I was doing track days oftens and regular then I suspect out of every 10 track days the BMW would attend 8 of them.

Too hard to judge, though the S54 is the M3 can best be described as angry and wanting to pick a fight with every other car on the road with the noise and throttle response it has, the Mustangs engine is just simply better.

They are different to drive though the principles are similar, RWD, front engine, powerful, noisy! :D
