just got my ocuk 3800 X2 good stepping?

Ok I've gotten mine to 2.6Ghz at 1.53V and OCCT and 3DMark 2006 stable. I will prime test it overnight.

Seems like a few of these chips are not great clockers. :(

I dont know, My 3800 x2 works perfectly fine at 2400 at its default 1.30v. I dont think 400mhz oc is particuarly bad as it matches the higher price (well was at the time) 4600. 2500 works ok with the max i can set 1.35v but not utilising atm as im utilising C&Q in this summer heat which is making me idle at around 38c atm and 47-50c load. Windows will even boot fine 2600 but apps start to fail and act funny eventually and at 2700 windows again boots fine but basic tests such as prime and superpi fail instantly.

All that said i dont think the 3800 is a bad occer, just needs a good board which can offer me a few more volts to get most out of the cpu.

My old SD 3700+ needed way less volts at 2500Mhz, if 2500Mhz already needs 1.55V there is little hope it will get close to 2700Mhz as that would require ~1.7V or more :(

Just tried my 4200+ in my other machine, and it primes @ 2.7, but this machine is in a cooler room. So I guess when the outside temps drop, I will get 2.7 in the cheaper asrock system.

Just a quick try, now at 2750 (11x250) @ 1.45, will try for 2.8 later.

I think I'm in the same situation as you, my 3700 SD sat at 2.5GHz for a year on stock volts in my DFI SLi-D. The 3800 X2 will do 2.2GHz at stock volts, and bombs Windows at 2.4GHz, even with my G.Skill PC4400 RAM on a divider. Not tried 2.3GHz yet. If I can get 2.4GHz with a bit more vcore, I'll be happy, it's a cheap chip and I'll probably do a mobo-CPU-RAM upgrade next year anyway.

The sodding AMD driver WILL NOT load either, says it can't find a file (but doesn't say which one, nice coding). The only way I can get the processors to not have a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager is to uninstall the CPU's, and delete a bit of the registry, then re-boot. They pick up a 2 year old Microsoft driver - roll on service pack 3!

Heatwave. WHen it cools down I think you should get better results.
I doubt it, I have watercooling and the difference in CPU temp between 30C ambient and 20C ambient is only 4C

I am beginning to think I have one of the worst clocking CPU's out there, maybe after some burning in it can clock higher but I doubt it.

Well, think I'm gonna leave mine at 2.6Ghz for the time being, now at 1.52V. Ran through 8 hours of Prime95 on both cores and so seems stable enough. I've got dual-core at the same speed as my old 3000+ so I'm reasonably happy now. :)

What BIOS are you running on your Ultra-D? Might have an effect on things...

704-2bta, my SD 3700+ ran at 2750Mhz for a while without issues.

There is one thing that might cause it, in all my testing I have used the 166Mhz memory divider, but could it be that that divider just isn't stable even though the memory can handle the speed?

I will try with a 150Mhz or 133Mhz divider tonight to see if that helps, the strange thing is I did not get Prime95 errors, it just hard locked or failed to load Windows but it did not look like CPU overheating as it was only 41C

What stepping have you got?

LDBFE 0622WPMW.

I have basically the same board as you and yes, some of the dividors can be temperamental, depending on what memory you have in the board. Cos of my cheap ass memory I'm running the 166MHz dividor - I've ran the 150MHz in the past with no issues either.

i've decided to order a 4800+ - at least its 1mb cach and is guarenteed to be 2.4ghz

i'll just sell the 3800+ and make a loss - its only money
Yeah, I could do that but I still have my SD 3700+ I need to sell that is worth almost nothing since the price cuts and I doubt I can convince my girlfriend I 'have' to buy another CPU :o

Just got mine it's LDBFE 0623WPMW and I'm sitting here looking at it. Reading this thread has started to depress me.

Should I?
Send it back, as it's unlikely to clock much - or will it?
Try it; if so which mobo? Neo2; Ultra-D or Dual Sata.

T

NB Conroe upgrade for me will be about October.

Ahh-Well it's open

Only got a standard heatsink/fan; thought I read somewhere the dual cores came with a sink with heatpipes or is this only for Opteron Duals?

I think its anything above the 4200 X2 that gets the heatpipe version.
