What a numpty.

I have been trying to sell my Rover 620 Turbo for about a month or so after moving from four wheels to two. The insurance on the car ran out just after Xmas and since then it has been stored off the road. Today I decided to give it a good clean inside and out to get it shifted whilst I'm off college and work. I spent about 4 and a half hours giving it a hell of a going over and was thoroughly knackered and was about to call it a day after putting some air in the tyres...

The local Shell petrol station is approximately a 20 second walk from my front door. I would say its 50 yards, there AND back. To the Shell garage I went...

After putting 32PSI front and 30PSI rear to complete my work for the day I set off the 25 yard journey home and what do I see in my rear view mirror? Of course those lovely blue flashing lights from a brand spanking new 56 plate Vectra VXR. The officer that pulled me over was a decent enough bloke but did have a good chuckle about how gutted I was. I explained the situation to him, told him where I lived (pointed at my house) but alas it was to no avail.

I admit it was a particularly stupid thing to do, I knew I was breaking the law and I will take my punishment as it comes - but damn, that was unlucky :(

Also it was going to cost me £140+ for the car to be impounded plus a daily storage rate, so I signed the amazingly shiny and sweet smelling car over to the GMP to be scrapped :(

:O

Im not up with the codes, but Im guessing the car is uninsured? Or untaxed?

That sucks big time. Major bad luck eh? Lesson learnt though, i guess, albeit at a hefty price.

Can you get a mate or retaliative to collect the car for you? I've heard that it doesn't cost anything then. As long as they can prove they are insured. I did see this on TV and it could be a load of wet nappy.

I'm trying to think of a way out, an excuse.. but I don't think there is one :(

That is absolutely gutting.

I'd have thought the officer may have used some discretion (That I don't think they have in this case) to see you home with a stern telling off. An IN10 for 25 yards just doesn't seem fair :(

/Awaits "You know what you were doing and you showed total disregard for the law - you deserve everything they throw at you" posts.

That is seriously unlucky mate :(

Thats nuts. Feel sorry for you geezer. Ignore anybody who posts "bla bla end of the day you were breaking the law" - 90% of people would have risked such a short journey. (or bought a foot pump :P).

Play the lottery tommorow night or something, your due a wad of good luck.

That is unbelievably almost impossibly bad luck. It feels like the officer should have given you a break but I suppose from his point of view he didn't know you were telling the truth - you could have been driving around for months like that and only just been caught.

Seems like an awful waste of a car too.

:(

his car prolly flashed up on the coppers computer as uninsured

and pulled him over and seized his car

what did he pull you over for, had he checked the insurance database ?
"Young lad in an old car"

I'd even taken off my black beanie hat off that all my mates say makes me look like a criminal just in case :(

I was thinkin that, but tbh if you explained to the officer that you'd just bought a new bike, obviously polished the car up, made it smell nice and was just getting ready to sell it and pumping the tyres up (all in a polite tone) i think its very harsh he didn't let you off.

I think you can usually tell the uninsured drivers because they always drive around in unkept bangers and are usually rude.

That is *seriously* unlucky!

There are millions out there who drive uninsured every single day, most without tax or MOT either yet you get caught driving up the road, bad luck mate :(

On 1 June 2003 driving uninsured became an offence for which, instead of prosecution, a fixed penalty could be offered. The level of the fixed penalty was set at £200 plus 6 penalty points.

The producer I have has a little tick in the 'Summons' box, but technically it appears he could have issued me with a fixed penalty notice? Is that right? If so that makes me feel even worse :(
