That is *seriously* unlucky!

There are millions out there who drive uninsured every single day, most without tax or MOT either yet you get caught driving up the road, bad luck mate :(

totally agree... however, fair play to you for just saying it as it was to the copper, shame he couldn't show any discression really.

any idea if there is a genuine figure for how many cars are uninsured?

Well, at the end of the day he had a job to do and the OP shouldve been more careful. Its bad, but technically he was breaking the law.

not with you there mate??

1 in 4 insured cars on the road. im wondering if that 1 includes the fronted policies (people driving on their parents policy but being the main driver - fraud and likely to have the policy void)

anpr sucks... unlucky m8.. but its sods law and its a bugger..

I fully support ANPR, it is a very good use of technology to rid the roads of uninsured and untaxed drivers. Unfortunately in this case it was a little too effective.

How?

It did exactly what it was designed for. If he had caused an accident in those 200 metres or whatever, he wouldnt be insured.....

Stop being pedantic, it's pretty tough luck to get done for such a short journey on a genuine one-off occasion.

i dunno, get caught speeding and it shows you may do it again.
get caught for IN10 and it can't say you're gonna drive without insurance again if you're phoning a broker to arrange insurance can it? lol.

Haha brilliant, never throught of it that way :p

Seriously bad luck there fella :(

All these people asking for the copper to show some discression, to be fair he didn't know that he just COME from his house (yes he was going to his house), nor does he knpw that he doesn't drive the car every day (we know he doesn't obviously). Cut him some slack, if he let the OP off then he's just as likely to let off someone who does it day in day out if they had a decent sob story.

Unlucky and fair play again mate :(

cant really blame the coppers here.... the guy could have been fibbing about where he had been in it and he may have just come back from the coast in it for all they know.

and yeah they simply input a reg(dont think they even do that now... has a plate scanner now i think) and it tells them who owns it, whether its taxed, MOTed or insured and also if theres any flags against it. my uncle told me all about it and its an impressive bit of kit.

i got 6 points 5 years ago before this.... same sort of thing and same result lol.

just unlucky.... :(

I got pulled for not being in the database over the new year, My ST is a company car so Im insured to drive any car in the company, but i dont have a specific certificate for that car, i didnt have any insurance cert with me at the time, but thankfully i had a business card on me so that saved me some grief.

if someone drives past you and takes a pot shot with a rifle at you, but they miss...if they are immediately apprehended should they be set free without charge because they didn't actually hit you? or should they be charged anyway?

In what possible way is this relevant? Do you honestly belive that driving 50 yards down a road without insurance just to pump your tyres up is equivalent to shooting at someone with a firearm?

This is one of those impossibly bad luck stories that you generaly only hear about when someone in a pubs tells you about something that happned to their mates brothers girlfriends dad. The number of people that drive about for years without insurance and never get a tug is just a twist of the knife.

That truly is unlucky. I live the exact same distance from a petrol station, and I've done the exact same thing. Pity the Police werent a little sounder, but thats life I suppose :(

did i say it was the same thing, or that i thought it was?
no.
Lopez said you can "what if" any situation, so i put another one forward to illustrate a similar principle...albeit on a smaller scale.the police have no discretion on cases of driving without insurance because...ahem...WHAT IF he had hit someone?
if it was a case of no harm done so a telling off is in order they WOULD have discretionary powers, but for the reason above they do not.

that relevant enough for you?

Bloody hell, that is some awful awful luck :( . And for it to actually cost you the car. How sad, another 620 Ti going to the great scrapyard in the sky :(. Was it a keeper? (how much were you asking if you don't mind).

Just for the people who have posted so far in this thread telling the OP he was "unlucky" ... erm no he wasnt, he was illegal. Pretty sure they're not the same thing
