Just had a break in, lost all my pc bits ;(

Fortunately I've never been burgled, the thing I'd find really annoying isn't so much the loss of hardware, but other stuff on my computer collected over the past 10 years or so (music, emails, unique game recordings, open university work etc).

Come to think of it I should really be backing more stuff up, it just feels like a bit of a chore.

Agree with what you say about it being annoying needing proof of purchase, most of my main bits I could rustle up but my PSU is second hand, and obviously my saved receipts would get nicked along with my pc.

Wonder if you will get the money in your hand then you can build it how you want it?

Nah ill let the build it, ive told them what it has to have inside and anything they cant replace ill get a cash settlement for.

Really am miffed about the whole situation. The worst thing is im not gonna get most of it back!

What a headache, kindof makes you wonder why we bother with insurance companies at all, they always find a way to stiff you over...

I think the answer personally is no, unless you can 100% prove what was stolen you wont ever see any return and who keeps theyre receipts for little bits and bobs over the years.

well in what I've paid in premiums and excess for this claim, i wouldn't even be able to replace the processor with my own money, so yes i think insurance is worth it.

plus i work in insurance so l know the benefits you might not think of, legal liability cover, alternative accommodation if the house burns down/gets flooded etc, the insurance covers a wide range of perils not just theft.

I hope you aren't going to buy an AMD processor or a hiper PSU with your insurance payout :p

check ebay for your pc

well one of my motorcross mates got his yz250 nicked from his house about 5 month ago he found it on ebay about a week ago we went and looked at is confirmed it was his rung police on seen while we held the grubby ******** whod nicked it :) so all hope is not lost you may get your stuff back.

Small update, have had some new parts for my PC delivered this weekend so spent most of the weekend taking my motorcycle Direct Access tuition and building this pc! pretty much same specs as before, but a P182 not 900

You are joking i hope!
Thieves are less than the S*** on the bottom of my shoe (in my opinion)
They deserve what they get if they have an `accident`;) while trying to steal property that some one has spent time and money collecting over the years

Lol. Some of the richest millionaires and billionaires in the world are the most scumbag, twisted bunch of thieves (Donald Trump, Roman Abramovich) not to mention that piece of work Thaksin Shinawatra.

I'm all for protecting property (with whatever lethal devices) and I sympathise for anyone whose gone through having their house burgled (not necessarily for the stuff taken, more the emotions and shock) but in no way do I take some higher moral ground than some common thief.

Its just stuff at the end of the day. It can be replaced, that's what insurance is for.

Too late I know but everyone should get into the habit of taking a digital photo of their invoices and keeping the photos with their other important data backed up on an external HDD and stored offsite with a relative or at work. Shred the original receipts. You don't want to be a victim of identity theft as well as burglary.

Damn buggers. Like others had mentioned, the worse part would be knowing some tosspots been rummaging around your personal stuff. Hope the frigging PC blows up in his face! ( unlikely I know )

Got me thinking though, is there anyway you could trace your PC if anyone connected it to the internet? Could be worth knowing.
