Just how good were / are Utd really?

Whilst Fergie is guilty of making mistakes in games, a recent one IMO was not having a player like Berbatov playing against Bilbao, someone who can hold on to the ball, I don't think he is why United haven't dominated in europe like they have domestically. The problem is the mentality of the English/British. I've been saying it for years

In general we bottle it at the highest level in most sports, especially those widely reported on by the media. Whilst our teams/sportsmen and women have had success here and there, we will never dominate in anything due to a lack of general mental strength. Better coaching from a young age, preparation and mental toughness is the answer. We have a fear of failure.

But NO-ONE has dominated in Europe. We have been more consistant than most and one bad season this year doesnt change that.

English teams on the whole (again, this year aside) have provided more than their fair share of clubs in the latter stages of European competition for the last number of years.

Berba would have hardly got the ball vs Bilboa, so what do you expect him to do lol

Utd needed better close control in the centre of the pitch not further forward

Berba was never a good fit for Utd, because they have always been best playing fast counter attacking football
