Just not fair - Dead Computer :(

It's an OCZ PSU, mine died in almost exactly the same way but while I was asleep and I woke up to the smell of burning components!

It killed the mobo (A UD3-P so not exactly the easiest of boards to kill!!) and I presume my Q9550 too which cost me an arm and a leg died too.

Buy a new PSU, one from corsair perhaps, avoid OCZ. Yes there are good ones but no point chancing it again with such high spec hardware. When a PSU goes it should take only itself, not other components.

Unfortunately for me, OCZ would not cover the cost of anything else, their policy only covers the PSU which I thought was rubbish, they would only replace the PSU so I had to fork out and ended up upgrading mobo, CPU and RAM and bought a new PSU.

Edit*
I had the same PSU as you BTW.

Built myself using all of ocuk parts..

I took the computer upstairs at my family home now, plugged the power cord in turned it on with one memory stick in, no hd, no cdrw and no fans apart from the rear fan and cpu. I saw every led light on the motherboard, the power light come on for what was a fraction of a second, the fan moves slightly and thats it, dead again. Press the power button nothing, totaly dead.

Sounds like a blown PSU. No spare to test I presume?

No , the other psu in the family home is only a 400w and doesn't even have the two cpu connections lol 15-20A 12v

Order I would try things..

1. Reset CMOS
2. Remove motherboard from case and try powering it on when it's in the motherboard box (with just ram & cpu in)
3. Try new PSU
4. Try new motherboard
5. Drop kick the lot and get a whole new setup

Thankfully, I've never had to go further than #3

Where are you based? maybe a fellow OcUK member in your area has a PSU they'd test your machine on

Ok this is not going to help you I know but the exact same thing happened to a mate with BF3 - he replaced the PSU and all fine. Like others have said here that's the place to look. If you are in N.Birmingham area I can give you a hand if you want trying to fix it.

POWER SUPPLY!!

Plugged cable GREEN / BLACK on main connection as per instructions
Plugged in a Fan into molex connection

Flicked the switch, The psu fan moved and the fan moved slightly then straight away instant off. The fans probably moved about a cm :p

What bugs me is people always say " NEVER BUY UNBRANDED " Always make sure you buy such and such. Well i had a case psu that lasted 4 years and a qtech that lasted 5, both branded psu's that i've ever purchased have died shortly after :(

Well at least you found the issue quickly! I sent my mobo off to ocuk before figuring the problem out so it cost me an extra 30 quid in shipping and fees. Now on the phone with ya and get her shipped off so you can get up and running again.

My Sapphire 5870 died and it took ~8 weeks to get a replacement. Half way through I bought 2 6970s as I couldn't hold on much longer!

I hope you get sorted soon Neil!

Just tried the same test on the cheapo 400w and that stays on, my psu shuts itself off within 1sec if not less of being powered up.

£22.70 for that to be delivered tomorrow which is expensive, hope i get delivery refunded if found faulty which it should do. I also hope it's tested and a new one is sent to me before the weekend as being disabled I need it to occupy myself :(
