No ranting was involved. If I'd ranted there would be lots of ****'s and random words CAPITALISED, because that's how I get when I rant.

Sounds... great.

I'm merely pointing out that some people buy a car with things other than depreciation, what kind of floorpan it's got, and complete adherence to common sense.

And I'm merely posting my opinion. I know damn well people buy things without using any common sense at all - do you think buying a 5 Series at 22 is even remotely sensible? Of course not, but everyone seems to forget this. It's far easier to pretend I think something it's blatantly obvious to anyone who reads Motors is not true, becuase it suits your point of view, right?

Some people just buy stuff because they like it. It always seems to me in threads like these that you're one of the first, usually the first, to rain on someone's parade and hint at them/tell them they've made a horrible choice.

So what? He's just spent £15,000 - if the opinion of some bloke on a forum after he's done that narks him then was he totally happy with his purchase in the first place? If he's happy with his purchase he won't care what somebody like myself thinks about his car.

It seems that you almost always manage to narrow every choice of car down to some sort of Ford or BMW or Citroen, or tell nearly anyone they should have bought some sort of Ford, BMW, or Citroen.

Mmmmm, more inaccurate sweeping generalisations. The only Citroen I ever recommend is the Xsara, and even then only becuase 1 in 4 posts appears to be something like 'Gonna buy a 306, what alternatives are there'. Fords? Focus and Mondeo, wow, thats a huge amount. Infact I've even stated on numerous occasions I'd never have a Focus myself but yet again you ignore this in your 'OMG HE THINKS EVERYONE IS LIKE HIM' tirade.

I think I've probably had a go at more BMW's than I've ever recommended ;)

I just personally much prefer the 3 sport to any variety of Focii. Focii are.. well, they're everywhere. Literally. I don't like that in a car.

And people like Alfa Romeo, selling unreliable cars for decades becuase 'they are different' (ie, most people are not daft enough to buy em) are very gratefu ;)

Easy tiger!

I gather from this post you're rather annoyed, there's really no need to be.

I respect your knowledge and all the help you offer the people that use this from - no doubt you'd extend it to me in future (well, once you've calmed down and struck me off your 'to kill' list), I was merely making observations about you weeing in people's cereal. I don't think you're scum, I don't hate you, I don't think you're an evil person. I was just engaging in discussion, which is - as you said - what forums are about.

Calm down, mardy bum.

...Try to ignore Fox he's not gonna change.

As for the Mazda it sounds like a good deal plus if no one ever bought a new car then where are these great second hand bargains that everyone loves going to come from ;) :D

id never buy second hand cos I dont know enough about cars, and TBH im suprised fox didnt say get a mondano. and no i dont care what you people think but im just stating a fact like lots of people on these forums do, I just wanted to see if anyone has a mazda 3 here. its a nice car to drive and is streets ahead of the focus even though they are built on the same chassis as ive been told by mazda, I have test driven both for a weekend at the time, and made my decision accordingly

I like the Mazda 3, and had they offered it with a 2.0 diesel engine I would probably have bought one 2 years ago instead of my previous Mondeo.

You can't beat the feeling of owning a brand new car, knowing it was built to your own specification and hasn't been abused by anyone else. So it costs you more, but there is more to life than money.

why do you allways have to complain what else some1 could have bought with the money fox ?

this is exactly the point i was making about you buying your cars with your head.

i dont give a damn what else my money could buy me. If i've chosen to spend 16k on a mazda, its because i didnt want a focus ST and quite frankly couldnt give a damn.

you on the other hand are obsessed with value for money. so what if its bad value for money and the same money gets you a focus ST. he doesnt care !!!

guys lay off Fox... sheesh, he's expressing an opinion, discuss it with him if you don't agree with it, don't go off on one at him !!

and yes... I am defending him, because there's no need to moan at him, or anyone else on this forum for that matter so shush!

I think Fox should write a sticky on what cars can be purchased for what budget, then it would stop lots of these "whats the best car to get for £5k or what mondeo can i get for £3k". I have to admit, i dont bother clicking these sort of topics anymore because i can see its gonna either be a BM, ford or Citroen recommended :p

But seriously, if he made a sticky, surely it would reduce all the needless "what car" threads?

You could get a 3yr old BMW 330d and a 3 yr aftermarket warrantee for under £15k :)

but he wanted a Mazda 3. Which is what people seem to be forgetting in this thread.

My '53 Celica TSport isnt the fastest thing i could have bought for my money, or the best, but its bloomin' 'triffic!

Hiyas,

If the original poster has got the car he wants under list prices and he is happy with his choice of car then whats the problem? As for others suggesting focus ST's etc perhaps he didn't want the higher insurance , worry of some idiot kicking his door in for the keys, worse mpg or perhaps he just likes the Mazda 3. Perhaps he wants to go to a local dealer and buy from there rather than trying to save £50 using a broker etc and have the worry (yes I know its probably 100% fine but its a bit different sitting face 2 face at the dealership).

I personally prefer a focus over the mazda just purely because I liked the interior more on the focus. Nothing more nothing less. I know they look different but of course they share a shed load of mechanicals.

I know in the real world you buy car x for a price and it drops £xxxx when you drive it off the forecourt.

However when I change my car next time I am most likely going to buy brand new and say stuff the depreciation etc. In life there are certain big purchases and I know for my dad it is always an ambition to own a new car. Silly I know but hey lifes strange.

I think they only way for myself or the OP to get anything better / cheaper is a pre-regged one with all the kit on at just the right time and they aren't always that easy to find.

Just enjoy your motor when you get it you flash 06 reg man :)

Very nice, get pics asap! I think i've only ever seen 1 Mazda 3 about! Really didnt know they were based on Focus mk2, was the mazda 3 out before the actual focus mk2?

OT - I think why people think Fox always recommends a narrow selection of cars in each price bracket is because he has been in that situation and researched all the options and found what he chose to be the best for him. In this sense it is easy to recommend it to others because he knows he made the right choice. Even i do that when I buy stuff, i research it well and when I get it and recommend it to others people start saying im a fanboy!

Sorry to stick my oar in.

No, I AM NOT. Jesus how hard is it?

WHY would somebody who is 'obsessed with value for money' be planning to spend £10,000 on a 5 year old BMW that offers absolutely rubbish value for money? Seriously a Perodua Nippa offers better value for money than a used 3 or 5 Series!

Get your facts straight before you continually post the same rubbish! If I was obsessed with value for money I'd be sitting here extolling the virtues of Kia.

It seems that certain people on this forum feel all should ever be posted is huge 'OMG WELL DONE' posts whenever somebody makes a purchase or a decision. Can you imagine how boring it would be if Person A posts 'Just bought a Clio' and gets 10 replies of 'Wow, thats great' every time? How predictable and dull - it wouldn't be a discussion forum, it would be an ego massage forum.

The great thing about opinions is everyones is different and when you add them all together you get interesting discussions, well, you do if people can keep their opinions to the cars rather than how stupid they think the guy who posted them is
