Hi i downloaded the wow 10 day free trial today for the first time. What made me interested in wow is that i play DOTA quite regularly and would like the same experience....i guess that means i was looking for PVP action and also i was looking to join a guild and use some voice software to chat with my teammates.
After about 2h i am currently a level 5 human rogue....and boy....i did not enjoy those 2h at all. Killing 10 wolves and then killing 10 kobold creatures, then killing another 10 and then another 10....basically it just equated to creeping in Dota but without any human player interaction.
So i asked a friend about this and he said that the stuff i wanted to do like Raids and quests involving a lot of people and use of teamspeak software or the like would only come in the later levels. He said that warhammer online would offer PvP straight from level 1.....but unfortunately i don't think my laptop is up to this....intel GMA 950 graphics chip.....
So my question is: how long do i have to play to experience what i want from wow?
I was thinking of buying an account. They seem quite reasonable theres one on ebay for about £80 for a level 80 rogue with full epic gear (lol i don't even know what epic gear means, but im guessing its special items that u have to play for hours to get.)
also i need to know what u do once you reach max level and have done the quests? can u still do quests with other people etc?

oh god....does this mean i will have to spend weeks of my time killing 10 things, walking to so and so and delivering a scroll....coming back and kill 10 bandits this time, walking to this guy etc etc etc etc......
i want to be involved, teamspeaking and playing an important role in my team fighting, and in a guild too!

If you found it boring getting to level 5 you should just give up now because that must have taken about 20 minutes :p

It'll probably take a fair while to level your first character all the way to cap, and I guess that's where all the real pvp action is other than a bit of twinking in low level battlegrounds (and it'd be pretty hard to twink your first character)

the truth is, its exactly like that unless you level in instances with a group of 5 tho depending on the server this may be hard to find. unfornutely you've joined wow to late to find leveling groups easy. i leveled with a friend i knew and we dinged every level at the same time (or near enuff). might be the only option if you find leveling boring solo. raids and the arena pvp only come endgame really.

It pretty quick to level these days if your experienced, I got to around 50 in a week and a few days on the latest server, also leveled blacksmithing and mining, fishing, etc. The leveling part is often more fun than the endgame which can get stupidly time consuming. I wouldn't buy a character as you will have no idea how to use it. I would take the 10 days and level to 30 or 40 or so and see if you still like it. Lots of people are leveling new characters on saurfang, the new server, so its easy to get in groups, something you'll find difficult on older servers.

trouble is hes new to the game it took him 2 hours to get to level 5 (no offense intended) hes obviously gonna quit before he gets anywhere near endgame so to combat that and help with the boredom until the endgame he needs to level with a friend (maybe someone who has played wow before) to help him.

also refer a friend would be a good idea so you get triple xp if you want to get to endgame easier.

btw trial accounts only let you get to level 20

Quick note about buying accounts: even if the seller is legit and doesn't just take his account straight back (which happens all too often) and Blizzard don't find out that the account was traded (IP log checking etc, or a friend of the seller grassing you up) you're still away off being able to play the game as intended.

While it's doable, the whole point of levelling is to learn the skills you need to survive at the highest level. Coming into the game with no experience, it'll take weeks if not months to learn all the nuances of the game. Meanwhile you'll hate it as you won't be as good as everyone else. I would strongly suggest sucking it up and levelling from scratch.

Ask a friend if they want to level with you (or if they have friends who do), make friends with others levelling around you or join a levelling guild on your server. But at the end of the day, most of the quests are kill X of Y or fetch X from Y and give it to Z. While that sounds boring, it's as much fun as you make of it. The locations, dungeons and inhabitants are what make the game fun. There are some times where you'll be crying tears of frustration and other times when your jaw will drop at a piece of genius design in the game. Stick with the game, find the class you enjoy playing the most and I guarantee* a rewarding experience.

*note this is not a money back guarantee, your enjoyment may vary from that stated on the box.

yes qdos is right, it can be fun and interesting if you read the storys etc. i do recommend playing warcraft 3 that will teach you the lore of the game and would make the game much more interesting when leveling. i regret playing warcraft 3 after wow as i feel i missed out on a lot.

Levelling, for me, was the most enjoyable part of the game, but then I did (most of it) when 60 was the cap and the game wasn't full of power-levellers who just want to get to the new content.

Levelling alone sucks. However, with a mate (or more) its very enjoyable, and I certainly preferred it to the end game.

I quit a couple of weeks ago and honestly don't really miss it at all :p

However I did play for a few years so guess I just got bored!

Raiding seriously is like having a 2nd job, playing the same fights week in week out gets kinda boring, pvp is sooo unbalanced and just not that interesting, questing after you have 10k gold and all epics from raids is also pretty pointless. So at the end I just couldn't be bothered anymore.

I will echo what some others have said and say that levelling for me was also kinda fun, especially when you can buy nice gear along the way and gradually pick up new abilities and get into the swing of things, I found it pretty relaxing

okay....seems like buying an account is out of the question then.
my only other option is to build a new computer to try out warhammer because ive heard that you can pvp from the get go.....ive already got a cpu gfx and mobo so i wouldn't really have to spend much.
i heard that the main problem with warhammer is the number of low populated servers.....but my same friend tells me that they just reorganised them so their populations are higher now.....any1 played wow and war and would recommend war over wow considering my preferences for a mmorpg?

surprised it took so many posts for this to be said, no point in buying a super strong account as the op wont know how to play the game, so will be just as good as a lvl 5 character and might as well stick with it, or better yet find a game he enjoys.

You'll need to level up to learn how to play the game, if you buy an epic'd out character and somewhow get into a raiding guild you'll be quickly found out and binned from the raids.

If you're really keen on getting into rading and not the least bit interested in leveling up in the game world the best thing to do is to get into a guild on a new server and spend as much time as you can running instances. While not 25 man raids some of the lower level 5 man dungeons are brilliant. I absolutly loved running the deadmines, when I first played an alliance guy, Also there are places like Blackfathom deeps, and Wailing Caverns that offer a good storyline leading up to them and good loot when

Do the levelling up from scratch yourself. You will be 100% better at the game when you get there beause you'll have learned as you go along, you wont get your character stolen and you wont get banned.

It doesnt take that long.

Like a lot of others have stated if you dont enjoy leveling to level 5 I would quit now. Most people think think this is the fun part of the game.

WAR is much the same but you can PVP from the beginning and best of all you get XP from it as well. But most of the MMO's in this format require grinding of 10 of this and 10 of that.
