Kerbal Space Program

I had half an hour to kill and decided to make a retriever...

This was my 'ball'

My next plan is to recreate Robot Wars ;)

so frustrated last night. I managed to capture a class d asteroid, which is no mean feat, but then on it's second orbit of kerbin it encountered the moon which sent it shooting straight back out of kerbin SOI. It has still got a small probe attached to it, which is a nice thought.

after a wrote that something has just struck me. Can you use multiple grabbers on a single craft? Even with locked pivot I'm have trouble with the larger asteroids flailing about. Could you use a 2.5m – 3 x 1.5m adapter and have 3 grabbers? Would that improve stability?

Managed to put a small lander on my main ship, landed it on Duna, Ike and Eve last night need to perfect my landings as I'm either relying on parachutes or using too much fuel in the descent.. Want to be able to re-dock with the main ship and fly back to Kerbin.

This thing is so addictive..

Also, has anybody noticed that if you disable the fuel crossfeed on a docking port, switch to the space centre then back, the crossfeed renables itself?

Man this is hard! Got my little dude into space but not high enough to orbit, I run out of fuel or wobble like crazy when I make it bigger. Think I should alter the staging and have different burn time.
Addictive though.

I've not played this for a good few months but I think I've played about 4 hours in the last 2 days, no easy feat with a 10 week old baby. I'd forgotten quite how addictive this game is.

Getting a transfer bang on is just so satisfying. I love this game.

had a random problem last night whilst landing on laythe,

I discovered that when I undocked from my main craft - if I used RCS at any point to position for entry, when switching back to stage mode - my throttle control was moving all over the place by itself, just going up and down randomly.

If when undocking - I didn't touch RCS and simply relied on reaction wheels, it was fine and I went down without any issues..

Some weird issues occuring,

I've had so many bugs, I'm waiting for an update or the next version, lost so many craft in deepspace and they just won't do sod all. Like they're out of electricity, but they have plenty. Also had them continually accelerate with throttle at zero

Ouch.. :o
It's an Alpha Game, so bugs are to be expected.
But in 0.23.5, there was little changed from 0.23, that should be causing those bugs.
- NASA Parts.
- Quick Save/Load Module:
Now you can create Quick Save / Quick Load profiles by pressing Alt + F5/F9.

So I am curious about these bugs Glaucus.
If you could encounter them again, an post up detailed reproduction steps:
1. Launch rocket.
2. Forget Parachute.
3. Have a rough landing on Kerbin...

I will personally see to getting the bugs investigated, and if possible a solution ready for 0.24 (For when-ever it gets released. :D )
I know the Dev's love hearing from the community, about bugs, that make the game frustrating to play; So they usually move the QA Team to investigate +
coders to create a solution quickly, when the community has a gripe with a recurring bug.

Happy Launches.

Well, that was a wasted few hours!

I put a probe together to finally leave Kerbin and get some science from Duna orbit.

My probe had asparagus staging, figuring it would be more efficient to get there and back.

Where do you think I put the solar panels for my probe?

That's right... on the fuel tanks I just jettisoned! :p

I've now got a probe orbiting Duna with no power at all.

Oops :D

Stevio done that myself. Very annoying.

That said it sounds like you may have over engineered your probe. You should be able to get Duna orbit and back to Kerbin without needing to resort to asparagus staging. You can do it with a single fl-t800 tank and a nuclear engine if your payload isn't massive. Asparagus staging is more efficient but often its just not worth the hassle.

And you leave junk everywhere, I like trying to get dropped stages to crash/burn up, or if they have to be dumped in sun influence, rather than planetary.

And yep, I absolute expect bugs and some are fun to play with, like Danny on youtube.

Decided to take flight again today, started a career as I haven't done one before, done the usual areas around Kerbin/Kerbin space so I guess once i have a capable rocket I'm off ot the Mun and taking samples around there & on the surface? I know I'll prob end up back in sandbox again!

You're right, but as it was with my probe sorted I still only just made it back to Kerbin. I got back into an orbit around Kerbin but had to use the RCS thrusters to complete my burn to get into the atmosphere.:D

I've been watching some Scott Manley videos today and it looks like I'm using a really inefficient method to transfer between planets. I'm breaking out of the planet's orbit to orbit around the sun, then transferring to an orbit around the planet I want rather than doing a straight planet orbit to planet orbit.

http://ksp.olex.biz/ is a really handy site if you want to do it by hand. Personally I use kerbal engineer as although it doesn't do it for you, it gives you the angles etc so you know when to burn and at what angle. I may try the protractor app as having to zoom in and out constantly whilst tweaking my burn was a pita.

Ta, I'll have a look at that site.

I've got engineer installed but I'm too far down the tech tree to use it in the career mode. I installed protactor last night but haven't had chance to play KSP since.

Thanks everyone for the help.

The engineer I've got installed has a module that can be used from the get go in career. It's the one that's an old school tape recorder. :)

What version of engineer have you got?

The tape recorder and the circuit board are showing up but it has a message that I need to purchase my science or something and it won't let me add either to my ship.

I might have an older version.

Or more likely, I'm being an idiot and just missed that the tape recorder will work but I'm pretty sure it doesn't.

I'll check tonight.
