Kerbal Space Program

ALSO, weird glitch. This LV 909 Terrier engine I apparently haven't unlocked yet, as it is included in the next rocketry unlock pack. However I clearly do have it as I've been building with it and just triple checked to make sure Im not going crazy. Is my game screwed up or something?

When you accept a testing contract, you get an experimental version of that part unlocked (it will say experimental after the part name). You are able to use that part for as long as the contract is going. I believe the experimental version is identical to the normal version in every way except the name

oh right thanks, I wish this game explained all aspects of it better..

Where do I find a particular zone on Kerbin? I have a mission available to take a crew report above 17,000m in a particular zone "5FTMC" however no idea where that is and Kerbin's a pretty big place!? There must be a map or something that I don't know how to use..

Recently started a KSP Interstellar playthrough with a few other bits such as TAC-LS. Good fun, although the contracts can be a drag. Anyone know of any good contract packs out there? I'd prefer not to have to test useless crap like a jet engine on Minmus and rescue people that I never put there.

Might be a silly question given this thread is probably full of diehard fanatics :p

I can't find a single negative review of this game, I'm after something different. Is this game as good as the reviews say? For some reason I'm still hesitant.

Didn't take much convincing :p

Went through a couple of the training missions and then on to career. Managed to conduct a few basic experiments and my first launch (which landed safely back down). I've unlocked the fist two aspects of research... not sure what to do next, looks like a few contracts have appeared. I'm very much learning by click and try right now.

What should my short term goals be?

1 - Get to the Moon (don't worry about getting back you ahve many spare kerbals)
2 - Build a working pod racer
3 - Destroy the whole complex with 1 rocket

And then laugh like a evil manic

Your next step should be working towards an orbit of Kerbin and then orbit either Minmus or Mun.

Remember to gather as much science as possible and have a look at some videos on science gathering tips etc.

Love this game!

If i was you I'd play sandbox for a bit, just have fun and get used to using all sorts of different components.

Personally I find more fun in sandbox than career mode

I like to be realistic ish so think of nasa history.

Which roughly went sub orbital, orbital, Eva, docking, lunar orbit, lunar landing, space station. Then once you completed that. Then kerbing - mun economy, so refining fuel and transporting it to a lunar space station. Then manned missions to mars from there. And whilst your doing that send probes here there and everywhere.
Kerbal alarm clock is essential. That way you have dozens of missions running at same time rather than just one mission.

Forget what it's called but also like the mod, where it takes time to build and roll out a rocket.
