Earlier, about 11pm I said to my 16 yr old and her mate, who is sleeping over, that they could have a can of Strongbow each. I decided to leave them to it and get some games played on the PC. Not wanting to get involved in the pillow fight and truth or dare etc.

Just gone downstairs after some gamij and found sick all over the floor in the living room and her mate locked in the bathroom. Bit OTT for a can of Strongbow I thought. I went downstairs earlier and found the bathroom locked about an hour ago but didn't really notice anything else.

The cans of Strongbow were still about 80% full (I just poured them down the sink) but I guess the empty 2ltr bottle of diamond white I found has something to do with it :mad: They must have started drinking it as soon as I went upstairs :mad:

I cleaned all the sick up but I ain't ever doing it again now the lesson has been learnt. In a way though, I'm glad it happened where they are safe rather than in a street gutter or some jerks party.

Her mate's still in the bathroom but all I can think to do is knock on the door and leave clean clothes and a towel outside. I'm worried that she might be hurt but I can hear breathing/snoring :(

My other two younger kids (11 & 13) are here as well and may need the bathroom in a few hours.

Awkward huh?
 
from the way you have described it you have been pretty irresponsible - especially in regard to giving alcohol to the girl who is not your child.

i know you were not to know about the diamond white, but it seems you created a somewhat alcohol friendly environment

They're going to do it anyway mate. He could be anal towards his daughter and try stop it all together but that isn't realistic. Hopefully they've both learned a lesson in moderation.
 
I'd suggest you start teaching them in the ways of hangover removal :D

Give 'em plenty of water to drink for now and mock them heavily in the morning :p

Hmmm. One can of Strongbow at 16? Nothing illegal or strange about that.

Irresponsible? maybe in as much as I knew there was 80+ cans, 10 bottles of red wine, 1 half used bottle of whiskey and a 2ltr bottle of diamond white in the house when I went to bed. But I told them they could only have the 1 can each.

We also have some matches and some psychology books but nothing is burnt or mentally disturbed that I can work out at the moment.

Me n a mate when we were bout 15 and i stayed at his arsed a bottle o whisky, his rents are lawyers, we got so drunk i was on the 2nd toilet for ages throwin up and kackin at same time, we learnt a lesson then.

It may be seen as eh! he gave them alcohol at home, but at least it was in a controlled (nearly, bar the cider) environment, and as been said not a party/streetcorner where anything could happen.

And yes prepare a fry up in the morning for them.

you can be patronising all you like pal but i am not the one creating a post of such an ilk, having to deal with sick etc. my main point was you should not have given alcohol to her friend, regardless of law etc. Since that law is particualrly sketchy and some parents try to advocate a different way you know.

i don't think it is particualrly apt to laugh it off in such a way. as you say she is still locked in the bathroom etc. and don't take this as me being a wet blanket, as that is far from the truth really.

The fact that between them they drank a bottle of diamond white doesnt seem to come into play with you does it? He said one can of strongbow, which lets face its just fizzy apple juice with a pathetic amount of alcohol in it, I seriously doubt any parent would get crabby about that.

from the age of 14 my mum always purchased alcohol for my birthdays, me and my friends would have a drink. It wouldnt be a lot but my mum knew what we had and where we where drinking. I grew out of drinking by the time it was legal for me to enter a pub, and before then I never got completely legless like some do. I now occasionally drink but rarely get drunk.

For those of you who seem to think that 16 year olds drinking is shocking, if you have kids I bet they are out there drinking without your knowledge. Which is worse?

If he poured them a couple of whiskey shots i could understand the uproar, but it was cider, take that pole out of your backside and lighten up!

No i don't think your out of touch mate. i would go along with what you say. giving kids cans of strongbow is just a plane NO NO

Many would argue that at 16 they are now adults, not 'kids'.

Have you guys complaining got kids of your own? If so, do they not have a sip of daddy's beer now and again? Or a 'shandy'? or maybe even a slightly alcoholic drink at xmas?

Well in my eyes and the eyes of the law they are kids. they should not be drinking strongbow at 16.

Um..you can drink, SUPERVISED i assumed? And he still gave it to the other chld as well..and they both promptly found something else anyways..christ, never having kids anyways.
 
unless you know the people who are sleeping over i wouldnt give them alcohol, on that offchance that either their pearents find out and you have to listen to them complain, or the child could have a liver illness which could be made life threatening with alcohol, or the childs religion could prohibit or limit alcohol.

How about you tell that to a couple of the 16 year old army lads i know that have just finished basic training and may, unfortunately, get shipped off to fight.

SideWinder: that article was dated Tue 2nd Jan 2007 so it is possible the cigarettes age has changed, dont smoke so wouldnt know.

I also didnt know that at 15 you can have a shotgun licence!

No its 18, same as a pub, however, they didnt buy the strongbow this time so I have no idea what point you are trying to make. If they can legally drink alcohol in a pub (even if they can't buy it) with a meal then they can legally drink it at home as well.
