I don't think the heat spreaders one C2D's are as well attached as Ivy/Haswell. I've had a couple of C2D and P4 heat spreaders come off with the heatsink before!
Bought some razor blades (proper shaving ones) for £2. Asked around if anyone had a vice I could borrow, but couldnt find one, so took my £2 blades to my £160 CPU instead of buying a £30 vice lol.
I'll probs buy a used 2600k as suggested, as its only about £15 more than a used 3570k. Used 3770ks are not cheap at all!
I killed my 3570k by trying to de-lid it with a razorblade make a couple of nics in the pcb, enough to see the copper beneeth the green stuff. Put it all back together and now when I turn the pc on, the fans spin, but nothing is displayed on the screen, and it doesnt boot into windows cos the fans never back down like they normally do in windows. So it looks like I broke it
So now, I'm obviously in the need of a new CPU (which I can confirm I will not be trying to de-lid). I bought the i5 3 years ago or so, because then, nothing was making use of more than 4 threads. Now, there are a few games that the i7 pulls ahead right? As I'm already going to have the shell out the £150 odd for nothing but my stupidity, I'm wondering if its worth the extra £100 to make it an upgrade?
Thoughs?
And yeah, I'm an idiot, you dont have to tell me...
I once read an article where someone used toothpaste as a TIM.
Bad luck.... I used a block of wood when de-lidding mine, it was very easy to do... I'd suggest u try it again with this method
I can't think of any game which would benefit having an i7, in my experience
What board and how much ram? Its not too bad, mine needs 1.344v for 4.5ghz
You simply might need more vcore
Can help you with that ram though
Try 2133mhz and 1.55v dram voltage,9.10.10.21.1t timings that's what I'm running
I wouldn't go above 1.4v for 24/7
Are you adjusting the vrm response?I forget what kts called now on Asus without looking
Meh, grabbed a used 2600k.
At least I cant be tempted to do it again now lol.
