Killing a fox?

I found a page talking about foxes and it seems the best way is obviously better fencing, or using some sort of poison to deter the fox, that is not harmful to foxes but does maybe give em a bas stomach or something I guess.

Foxes will chew threw a lot of fencing (not metal obviously!). You can buy electrified chicken fencing if you are that keen or as you only have a small garden in a city just use a proper gate or wire rabbit fencing.

They will jump over any low fencing or gates though so if you only have a small fence don't think that will keep it out. Failing that a stronger rabbit hutch should be OK as long as it's not thin wood which they will gnaw through or break.

theres a fox that lives outside my flat and i think its had children cos they regularly wake me up in the middle of the night with their god awful howling. i swear one of these days im gonna cap one of them! show them whos boss

Please don't kill the fox.

I'm sorry about your rabbit, but maybe you could use a better mesh or something in future?

Foxes are lovely animals and certainly quite timid around here when i've cornered one (although i'm big), it was only doing what comes naturally to it.

Foxes are not lovely. they are evil and need to be disposed of :)

If i had a rifle I would have had a fox kill by now. Cant really get close enough with the 12 bore :(

Thats your view I suppose. :)

I can't see how an animal in its natural state can be evil, we are the animal capable of that.

I loved shooting but would only kill myxy rabbits.

If you are from the country, and have animals then you would understand how much of a threat they are :)

As it happens, we have not had kills from foxes, just dogs. and they were dealt with accordingly ;)

Well I would have thought you would be ok with shooting it in Wistow! :)

Played a tennis match there before i think

Probs had, tennis court at the village hall, it's an okish place apart from the pests like the foxes and stupid teens.

Well its wood, and just nail another layer of finer mesh behind that window mesh.

Some rug would maybe be an idea, open it in morning and pull it down at night. Fox wouldn't get in there.

Was thinking, if my parents do decide on another rabbit, we have a CCTV camera, can have that watching the hutch all the time I reckon, I can even probs have it wired to the internet then I can watch from Manchester!

Shame your in a city, a .223 slug would do the trick :) They are malicious vermin who need to be controlled, they are no better than rats.

You could also get a cage trap for about £100, then release it elsewhere for someone else to kill.

is there not someone in Wistow that could 'dispose' of the fox for you?

would have thought someone out there would have a FAC or shotgun at least

Even if it is legal, it is not moral to simply kill a living creature because it is in your garden. Yes, it killed your rabbit, but it was simply being a predatory animal. I would call the RSPCA and see if they can relocate it, or, simply, leave it the hell alone.

I know a farmer who ran over two relocated urban foxes...

...with a combine while harvesting. They had no awareness of the danger a big noisy machine posed.

So you kill dogs instead?

It doesn't really make much difference tbh.

I grew up in the countryside.

I also know farmers who only grew crops, but would quite happily jump in the pickup and run off shooting at night anyway. I always thought they were tossers deep down.

Exactly. When groups like the arsepca aren't releasing them directly onto the shoot (for the waiting keeper to dispatch) they are often raising and releasing semi-tame youngsters who have NO idea how to survive in the wild. Cue bewildered looking creatures wandering around in broad daylight until they walk straight into a tractor... or a .22. Humane my ****. Such unfortunate creatures are a common sight in some parts.

A fox killed our 12 chickens, and 3 ducks overnight.

If I saw him again rest assured I'd have no qualms about stringing him up :p

Yer and it's not like they just kill 1 and take it for food either, they massacre the whole lot and just take what they can get in there mouth back with them.

they were only killed due to what they did.

wasn't done for fun, please understand that
