Killing a fox?

I'm sorry, but some of the comments in here are ridiculous.

I live on a farm, we actually farm ~850 acres across three sites. We farm livestock, the most vulnerable of which are our chickens. We have around 60 free range chickens and foxes present absolutely zero threat to them. Why? Because they're secure. I repeat (as I have done many times), foxes are only acting out of instinct and the easiest way to stop them is to make sure your animals are safe and secure. If you're not competent enough to do that, then you have no right keeping animals in the first place.

Phone the RSPCA to relocate it. If you explain the situation i'm sure they will happily do so. And it means no dead fox. Whats the point in killing something when there's a solution that means it doesnt have to die.

+1 to this.

I live on a farm also, we have a few foxes on the farm. They don't actively attack sheep, they'll drag off a small lamb if it's mum isn't protecting it..

They don't pose any threat on our farm, but their numbers aren't great.

Badgers are more of a pain

others have said this results in a rather more gruesome end for the fox :(

Shame your in a city, a .223 slug would do the trick :) They are malicious vermin who need to be controlled, they are no better than rats.

The animals aren't to blame. We are. Foxes and rats would have no interest in us if we didn't provide them food and shelter. The fact we make it so easy for them to gain resources is why they are around, not because they are evil and want to annoy us.

I was brought up in the country and foxes came in to our garden lots of times. Did my rabbits ever get eaten? No, that's because they were secure. I only lost one rabbit and that is because someone stole it, not because a fox got it.

Ive shot a few foxes in my time, mainly at the request of farmers during the lambing season. I also know one farmer who lives near me, he has shot countless numbers of dogs that have strayed onto his land, some were chasing and attacking sheep, but on other occassions he's shot and killed dogs that havent been near his livestock.

What did they do?

attacked our sheep.

killed a few, other had to be put down :(

with regards to securing livestock, thats fair enough for a farmer, for for a non farmer, they will not know what precautions they need, and if a fox happens to kill whatever animal they have, then the fox will be dealt with accordingly ;)

Although I agree it shouldnt happen a second time...

And with regards to the above, if I were to see any animal chasing/attacking our sheep my first thought would be to go for my gun. it is my instinct. Nearly had to take the gun to our neighbours dog as well :(

There's a third way here. Prove your status as the alpha in this situation by catching, and having sex with said fox. It's the only way it'll understand that you my friend, mean business, and it'll steer well clear in future.

eye for a eye, nice bit of cat meat left out attracts them. killing method is your choice, if you are going to break there neck wach out for them biting you they have very sharp teeth. if you or your friends have a shotgun blast its head off.

If you don't wanna shoot it I've an idea.

Lace a load of cat food with masses of laxatives, and watch the fox pretty much propel itself with **** out of the garden, film it and post on here.
