Killing those January blues!

Blue Monday was. Not January blues.
still seems to be a more recent trend than January blues.

almost like it didn't exist until genz were hitting their adulthood.

Imagine going back to like 1943 or something and telling people you have January blues

Christmas is just one big retail fest these days, but I always feel lonely after new year.

Only if you make it about that, for me it is about good food, good company and enjoying the time off to relax. Which is why it is so so hard to go back to the grind. If it was just about retail, I wouldn't have any January blues at all.

I thought I would try one of those tough lifestyle hacks that is meant to really sort you out. So I'm embracing change and having a strict "VIP January".

Vodka
Internet
Pot Noodles

It's tough not being allowed to leave the house, but I've already lost two days.
Sure, the P = 'Pot Noodles' :-P

I've had terrible sleep for the last 6+ months, both in the way I feel in the morning, and the metrics from my Garmin watch.

On New Year's day, after lunch I fasted for 36 hours (not my first time), and then went to intermittent-fasting (only eat breakfast and lunch each day, nothing outside that) and strict low-carb.
Since then, with no other changes, my sleep has been much better - I've felt as if I wake from a deep sleep and not barely dozing, and my sleep metrics are so much better.

I shall continue this indefinitely, perhaps doing a fast each Friday as well. I know not everyone can do this, or maybe needs to, but it's absolutely improved my January over the months before it.

Whys january supposed to be blue?

When you think about it it's the time when nature is starting to come back to life, all the birds etc are starting to be out in force.

It's the time a lot of seeds can be planted, albeit indoors or under a cloche.

Brand new year to look forward to and all that... shouldn't November or December be the miserable month?

November/December, most people are looking forward to Christmas, seeing family/friends and some time off.
January, all of that has gone, and it's 'back to work'.

Christmas is overrated if your one of the heads of a house hold surely? like anyone over 35 surely it just becomes annoying having to buy gifts etc

It's like everyone's birthday all at once, maybe that explains January blues, a lot of people are just skint and have to live on a tight budget until they recover

Jam and Feb are the coldest bit of the year. December is only the start of winter.

'In the Bleak Midwinter" isn't about December it's about January.
