Kinect vs Move

I don't see how anyone can comment on either being good or bad without actually using either product.

But we can speculate on what we've seen, mind you, if the aim is about expanding your userbase and tapping into the casual market, despite how good/bad we think they are at E3, it won't matter too much, the 'casual' gamer won't have seen it.. it really depends on the press/journo's and the marketing departments.. in which case ,they tend to have a more balanced view..

I'm not sure either will last.

Wii controls got tedious for a lot of people quickly, and the Move is just Sony's version with the benefit of everything else the PS3 can do.

Natal from everything I've seen isn't accurate enough to play "serious" games.

that golf demo last night was epic fail as far as im concerned.

Looked OK to me.. but having that fine a control over the club face will just annoy people, look how hard golf is in real life, I'm not sure nerds will put the effort into something that is supposed to be fun..

Yay, lets generalise gamers

I didn't see the full Sony press conference but Move certainly looked more appealing to me than Kinect did. If I had a family to play with then I think Kinect would appeal more. One other negative is that Kinect doesn't have Kevin Butler :D

What I'd personally like to see out of the Kinect is involving it in games, but without it being the sole reason for the game, as all the titles so far have shown. The most promising one I thought was the demo by the Forza team.

In that, they used the Kinect as a steering wheel. That, I didn't like, as I'd prefer a controller, or better, a proper wheel that has force feedback and rumble that makes it feel like you are really driving. However, the most interesting thing I found was that in their demo, the Kinect facetracks your head, so you can use your head to look around in the cockpit of the car. If you could use that, with a normal controller or wheel, then I think that would be great.

I thought the Forza demo was quite bad tbh. WHo is going to play forza with an imaginary steering wheel? I mean hardly anyone plays mario kart with the plastic wheel, unless it is for a laugh.

If it works by tracking you head then maybe, but even then, if someone walks in the room and you turn your head to see, but keep one eye on the screen it could end horribly for your game :p Also, it looked like you had to lean in order for the view to move. Which could also get quite strange if you move about or have an itch or sommit lol

What new technology? A camera? Or are you referring to the scripted 'Milo' demo?

Kinect involves a camera yes, but there's a lot of software behind it as well that goes to tracking movement in all parts of your body. This may not be a new invention, but it is at least new to consoles and the use of the general public.

Tbh I've not actually seen any games on the Kinect yet because I just know they won't be good demos. Give it some time for developers to work out what to do with it.

Having said all this, I won't be buying either the Move or the Kinect because 1) I already have a Wii, 2) There are enough games other great games I still need to play; I don't need to buy new hardware to have more fun.

I thought the demo was quite good, ignore the Mario Kart esque driving, although it shows you can do the same style of driving without any controller for the really young/old audience, hell it even had auto accell/brake.. It was showing the accessibility Kinetic brings to a game.. The head tracking for the view was head tracking, the leaning only did something later on and was to allow you to walk around the car..

All tat and fluff at the end of the day, but glimpses of OK stuff I thought..

:D

I will be getting this move contraption just for socom 4 , for what ive see it looks really good .
Also that sorcery game seem to work spot on and it also looks fun :D

But i might also buckle on kinect just so i can take the dance game round my aunties just for this

I remember her going mental to this and new kids on the block at the time :D

My concerns; Kinetic in every single demo demonstrated major tracking delays or even had to be improvised (i.e. that girl and the tiger). It will be frustrating to play if it's not close enough to 1:1. Someone quoted 200ms which removes the ability for extremely fast/reaction based games to be demonstrated effectively. Games like the rollercoaster and the rafting looked awesome, it’s these games that Kinetic will really flourish in, but if delays are not reduced you’ll probably find yourself not playing in sync with what is on screen in an attempt to counter delay.
For the control aspect, suspending your arms for steering and other forms of control similar to this method imo is not going to be fun. It's the dance and a lot of the sports games that will be decent with this technology, simply where the use of full body motion is promoted.

My concerns with Move are simply that it is Wii methodology. This paves the way to excessive amounts of poor quality, low substance games. Move doesn’t really bring anything new to the table and I think it will be solely down to the developers to provided innovate new ways of using the technology for it not to replicate a Wii. Sorcery I thought looked OK, I just hope they maintain a high amount of AAA Move titles.

Bell Biv DeVoe - Poision is an epic tune!

It will be especially tiring with driving games, having to hold your arms there. On a physical wheel you can actually grasp it and that does something towards supporting your arms.

I am not interested, its a gimmick, all the games look good but the lack of feedback means they are nothing more than polished wii controls. Great for having at a party but in your bedroom/living room on your own, its gets boring.

But move is being used for fps games/third person shooters too. That is the only thing I care about. Playing Dead Space 2, ghost recon future soldier, socom, Resident Evil 5, Killzone 3 and so on with move is going to be awesome. If they can nail it that is. Metroid Prime worked perfect with the Wii mote.

Oh and Dead Space Extraction HD on the PS3 too. :)

Not sure how Kinect can do hardcore games like the ones I mentioned??

Sony Move is basically a Wii controller, right?

Its Wii HD more or less.

wtf? Looks kinda dodgy if you know what I mean... what is she trying to tickle? um nvm.

It can't but that's not the market it's going after. It's going after the controller free dance/party/fitness casual market. It's got a perfectly good controller for hardcore fps titles. I can't think of anything worse than playing fps games with waggle for any long period of time.
