Kinect vs Move

Indeed, and I'm sure it'll cater for both, small movements for the lazy, full on exaggerated real life swings if you want to..

We have 4 wii motes, and use the Wii for this type of thing, space isn't unlimited, but we manage.. My mum has given my brother a black eye with the wii-mote, and knocked my light fitting out.. but my mate is a bit shy and stands there just flicking the wii mote as little as he can get away with..

And if your mate is winning, then good for him! Slow, passive and without excerting yourself is the way I play myself. :p

Unfortunate for your brother though.

This is simple for me in choosing as "KB" has pointed out in previous videos and at E3 this week with only Move giving support for proper games.
We have the wii and yeah wife/daughter use it I just see Microsoft offering as pretty much the same thing with some advantages.
I dont see me playing a racing game holding my arms in the air and getting no FFB wheel resistance or feel from the game. Gees if having PS3 launch without rumble was bad this idea of racing games using an imaginary wheel is in my eyes not a better way to experience that type of game. Of course kids and some games will be fine but I just get the feeling Move not only has games that can do all this but also can give something back to proper hardcore gamers.

Microsofts offering is likely to let some gamers down by not having any impact to improve typical action games which appeal to normal gamers. Now if Halo or GOW3 etc used thier tech to improve the shooting genre it would surely of been welcomed? Sonys Move etc may be a gimmick just like 3DTV but well I guess gimmicks can sell well and have done so in the past. It probably will take a few titles to really determine if its really going to catch on long term however Killzone 3 in particular seems to be on heck of a title and offering Move with 3D should be a new gaming plateau for techies. Now can someone tell me if Gears 3 is going to start and feel a bit old and rehashed?

I do applaud Sony though for looking to patch previous games with Move support and it will be interesting to see how this new format wars pans out...

Microsoft will sell millions of their device as will Sony and well and if anything the losers from all this could be Nintendo in future console sales by losing their exlcusivity in motion controlled games.

A year ago I was really excited about Kinect. I've completely changed round to now thinking that I will definately get Move, and probably not get Kinect at all.

I think both systems have their limitations, but I find Kinect seems the more limited to me simply through the lack of a second controller device for doing stuff such as moving characters around. It seems to be going all out for the casual/party market and just looks like a one trick pony, where people just stand infront of a camera and have a fit. I also found all the games demos quite poor, nothing interested me at all that was showm.

Now, the Move interested me a lot more, granted I agree it is just the same as the Wii, but at least Sony seem to be making some effort in integrating this control system with the more traditional games plus it looks to work so much better than it did on the Wii. I thought the Sorcery game looked cool, but most of all I was impressed with how acurate it looked. I certainly don't think it will replace a joypad as the controller of choice for proper games on PS3, but if Sony get it right then it could just work out as a nice complementary addition for some games.

I'm definately going to give Move a shot, I'd need much more convincing over Kinect, I'm not even confident the technology works that well from the little I've seen but I guess it could be something you have to try for yourself to decide.

First time I've seen 'Move' is that video lowrider posted. I'm actually quite impressed, it seems to react instantly and it looks very natural.

Almost an augmented reality thing going on there.

Good video here of people trying out the PS Move for the first time and their impressions,

Like the kid towards the end. He was more excited about the free swag he got than the games :). Playstation Move is nice but he got a SUBWAY card!! :)

Quick question, Wii is advertised as having 1:1 mapping, just like Move and Kinect. How does it do 1:1 without a camera? Just fancy software and super sensitive gyroscopes and accelerometers? If it is 1:1 how come none of the stuff shown on Move is on Wii with the same level of accuracy. Maybe it is and I haven't seen it?

Ooooh, neither.

I'll play the Wii if I want to flap around like a constipated retard, thankyou.

When I buy an XBOX/PS console I expect to be able to sit back on the sofa and play my games in comfort, after a hard day's work.

I hope they both bomb as i'm worried that within a couple of generations there won't be controllers anymore if Kinect/Move do well.

Looking at move I would rather play an FPS with that than a controller TBH, i did see any flapping about with the stage demo.

Same. Playing Metroid with a Wiimote is, if anything, less strenuous than using a pad. Sitting in a bean bag wth my arms resting - just tiny movments of the wrist. People who subsribe to 'you have to jump about like a nutter to use motion controls' haven't a clue.

I'll be getting both move and kineect, but am more hyped about move. Child of Eden is the one thing that has me hyped for kinect at the mo.

The sad thing is, everybody that has already written the thing off, havn't even played with one yet.

And you are more concerned with how you will look playing it, than what its like to play. I wish I were as cool as you lot.

I've always been a big advocate of pad gaming, prancing about in front of the telly has neverreally been for me, but Move has slowly sparked my interest.
Kinetic seems like an out and out party game peripheral, whereas Sony seem to have made serious effort towards introducing something that will have use to hardcore gamers. I'm pretty sure I'll get a Move, I've got the PS Eye anyway, so it's not that much of an expense and I'm keen to see what a difference it makes in FPS games. Echochrome II looks really interesting with it too, in fact Sony's record with 'alternative' games (like Flower) suggests to me that we're likely to see some really innovative use of the Move from some indie studios on the PS Store.
One thing that excites me is the prospect of having Move + 3D games, that 'Lights Out' game is a good example, not only are you swinging real punches at a 3D opponent, but you've got punches coming back at you in 3D, it just sound incredibly immersive.

Dont see the point in either tbh. I,m a 32 year old gamer that enjoys lounging on the sofa with a controller and a beer.. The day i get up and start waving like a retard at my Tv and more than likely spilling my beer will never come........

My kids will love it though.......

Don't think I'd buy either, but if i had to choose, then definitely the Move. That video that lowrider posted looked pretty good, the augmented reality stuff. The fact that it can be applied to existing games as well is good and doesn't cut out the FPS market too much.

Im interested to see what some of the big games developers do with these.
Not looking forward to the party games so much.

Cant see why we cant have games such as Mass effect where you use a controler but then it uses Kinect to help 'bring you into the experience'. Use jestures to open doors, complete tasks, speak to characters Milo style. Doesnt have to comepletely replace the pad.

Also with regards to demos of racing games etc, it got me thinking....could I not just hold something like...I dunno....a plate....a frizzzbe....anything really so that I have something tactile in my hands and It 'feels' more natural. Could even use an old steering wheel from my PS2.

Cant it 'see' heat so it can work out where I end and the object begins and therefore still track my hands?

This is the area i'm looking forward to tbh. Not the party games but using the new systems to augment existing controls and mechanics. As you suggest Kinect would be great for replacing the little actions that are taken for granted, like with the hand gestures for interactive elements (like sorcery with ps move) and the head tracking in the forza demo. Even the little elements like the hacking mini games could make use of it somehow i think.

I think its really a wait and see situation, im eager to see what developers can make out of it although i think it will take time as always.
