Kinect vs Move

I am not interested, its a gimmick, all the games look good but the lack of feedback means they are nothing more than polished wii controls. Great for having at a party but in your bedroom/living room on your own, its gets boring.

My thoughts exactly. Would be great for social events! (Which is what gaming should be really)...

It can't but that's not the market it's going after. It's going after the controller free dance/party/fitness casual market. It's got a perfectly good controller for hardcore fps titles. I can't think of anything worse than playing fps games with waggle for any long period of time.

The waggle in metroid prime worked perfectly. You weren't waggling the wii mote like crazy all the time. It made sense when you had to waggle.

If move is like that, then thats not much waggle.

I dont think the Wii is that effective anyways! Very inaccurate but incredibly fun. Other manufacturers are just trying to catch up in this segment.

For me the Move is a far better option, as both my children are now over 7 years old and I don't have friends/family round on a frequent basis (not that my family would be interested anyway) which rules out Kinect full stop. Also in my experience with the Wii both Resi 4 & TW09 were excellent with the Wiimote so to be able to play these types of games in HD is the better option.

I still have a huge reservations with the space required for Kinect especially for more than one player. Every time they show it it's in a spacious area with nothing in the way, and although my lounge is a good size I would have to move funiture etc which is not going to happen.

If you have room to play wii sports, then you'll be fine...

Playing Golf with Move is going to need about the same space, if it has to track over quite some 'throw'..

Got a link to confirm that?

I must admit I never played anything more than the bowling & golf games from Wii Sports and obviously you take it in turns so it doesn't demand a huge amount of space.

Both are gimmicky fads just like the whole 3D nonsense.
Both will fail to take over from the good old gamepad.

Cant see most people looking forward to jumping about sweating in their living room after a hard day at work.
They want to sit on the couch and relax.

With many shooters getting Move support I'm interested in how this will affect online multiplayer. Killzone 3 and SOCOM have confirmed support for it, if its carried over to multiplayer then anyone using Move would surely have a significant accuracy advantage over regular controller users.

It'll likely split like they did with UT3 with kb/m support.

It also has motors in the camera to automatically adjust height and automatically adjusts zoom to fit people in.

Yeah, I've watched some of the FM4 video's and a couple of times the guys get quite close to the TV, definitely closer then I ever would with the Wii..

I haven't heard any complaints about playing 2p Wii Tennis from people with normal front rooms, considering the 'arm' space you have to keep, I don't know why people think Natal or Move is going to be significantly different to each other.. Most Move demos are quite far back from the camera, but you see occasionally people get in closer and it handles it fine.

It kind of depends on what type of player they are, or how sensitive the controls or response could be. It's either arm flailing like a lunatic or simple lazy wrist action.

I heard the minimum distance for Kinect is 1.5 metres.

Do you know if that's for one person or more?

Yes but surely Kinect only has to track your arms out straight, what about say the rafting or dancing game with more than one person?

I don't get what you are angling at to be honest..

Whether Singstar Dance, or the Kinect Dance thing, or the Wii Dance thing, I'm sure the rough rules of 'space' apply to all.. MS have put tilt and a reasonably wide camera in so it tracks, dancing is dancing...Move and Kinetic use camera's that I'm assuming have roughly similar fields of vision, so replace hand with move wand and I can't see any reason to think they'll be radically different..

But since you said Move is more suited for you, I wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Project Natal, Microsoft's motion-sensing Xbox 360 camera, will work in rooms of all sizes. The device's sensors will read the depth and configuration of your room, adjusting its play space on the fly, Microsoft has revealed. So big or small, cluttered or minimalist, Natal should work in all households

Indeed, and I'm sure it'll cater for both, small movements for the lazy, full on exaggerated real life swings if you want to..

We have 4 wii motes, and use the Wii for this type of thing, space isn't unlimited, but we manage.. My mum has given my brother a black eye with the wii-mote, and knocked my light fitting out.. but my mate is a bit shy and stands there just flicking the wii mote as little as he can get away with..

1) I didn't know the Move or Wii had a dance game? and even if they do surely the camera doesn't need to track your legs like Kinect does?

2) Yes Move does suit me better I think only for the reasons mentioned, i.e. nothing to do with space.

3) I think it's a valid question for anyone interested in either product now or in the future.

4) So basically no one know's and by Microsofts statement I & 3 friends should be OK to have Kinect in my 8 x 6ft shed and dance away with no issues......

It would be nice to get some concrete info...

Sorry, there is no concrete info for any of the motion systems, it depends on many things, including the game no doubt..

Is that better?

I would spend your energy on working out Move's range of operation for the games you are interested in, that is unknown too, so how will you know if 3 people in your 8ft * 6ft shed can play your chosen games?

We could be sensible and assume that all information points to them having thought about room sizes and as long as you have a normal arrangement all will be well.. I dunno :)
