King of the Monsters

Went to the BFI IMAX to see this yesterday. My overriding feeling is just a very big 'ehhh....'.

Virtually all the human characters were annoying or poorly written. The script felt like a draft version. All the jokes fell completely flat and were awkward. The 2 "comic relief" characters (if you can call them that) were completely unnecessary. Zhang Ziyi I'm sorry was absolutely awful; completely flat delivery. If they were that desperate for that Chinese money, there must have been a better actor surely?

The monster action, while I did enjoy, it was all a bit dark and grey and samey. It would have been nice if there was a bit of variety in the colour palette during the fights given how different all the monsters are. It was also a case of everything decent was shown in the trailers, of which there were tens and tens of trailers which basically felt like they showed 80% of all the fights. I didn't watch every trailer, but I was kind of disappointed that everyone was saying how much more the monsters were in this, but I still felt it was a bit lacking.

Would've been nice to see more interaction between Godzilla and Mothra, as their 'connection' was just kind of shoehorned in the last minute.

Overall I think it's a 6/10. No way deserving of the scathing reviews it has been getting, but there were a lot of flaws with it at the same time.
 
Godzilla vs Kong should be over in like 5 seconds, Atomic breath = Kong's Fur on fire.

I went to see it yesterday, I enjoyed it a lot the visuals were beautiful and I was just smiling throughout the film when the monsters showed up. The human chars were meh and plot was also meh but it was a fun watch.
I'm sorry but Kong has no chance...
 
I kept my expectations low, I really did. I flattened them out with a rolling pin, and squeezed them under a limbo bar.

It still wasn't enough.

Shin Godzilla is the best Godzilla ever made. That's the standard by which I judge all others.

I think the 2014 Godzilla movie was better than King of Monsters.
