** Kingdom Come : Deliverance 2 **

Haha, I know, but who said PC? ;)

Also if neither of those are released (I did caveat that point by the way), there are still plenty of AAA games due for release that might be bigger more mainstream contenders.
Witcher 4 isn't expected until 2027/28 at the earliest. We might see GTA 6 this year ... on console, but rumours remain strong that it may get pushed into next year.

Lots of goalposts being moved here folks. Yes of course console games count because the official GOTY awards are cross platform.

There more than just W4 and GTA6 planned for this year and even if they slip (I did caveat this already), there are other big AAA games planned.

All I’m saying is talk of official GOTY are very premature.

So how do I beat Tomcat to get the Master Strike?

Keep practice fighting him to level up?
I have around 25 hours played and just met Tomcat. And he completely destroys me in the duel. And yet I was able to do all the quests I got so far. So I will just postpone this duel until I have better weapon and higher skill level. You do not need to defeat him to have fun in this game. You can just postpone it to later. Masterstrike is not that critical. Many quests are not even combat based at all.
Also, make sure you are picking out your perks. Under all the skill tabs in the player menu. Some people never notice this and play the game with dozens unpicked perks...
As for making money, I have around 1200 groshen now and already bought permanent rooms in several pubs. Money is not that hard to come by if you do quests, make some potions and sell them, loot bodies of enemies you defeat. You can also get your horse back for free if you have decent charisma back in Semin, which helps a lot with hauling stuff.

I'm surprised so many people are struggling with Tomcat - all you have to do is what he advises. And when you are properly dueling just do the "perfect block" and then strike or look for openings like he said.

There is a combat video a few pages back i recommend watching if you are struggling.

(Witcher 4 hasn't even been given a release date/year)

Because it's flawed...

You assume you go up, right, left just as he says but he goes WHY DID YOU STOP after the third swipe, it's as if the game stops you from clicking the mouse anymore. It was really *** me off!

Found out, you need to time the next swing while your character is already the first swing. Rather than swipe, hit, then click hit for the next one

I thought that was pretty obvious.. as said if struggling watch a combat video as i am not saying it easy, but it isn't difficult or to the point you should be getting frustrated at.

Yes the explanation is poor but the picture shows an upper strike always goes to the left so just click initiates a left strike... at least I think it does :)

Yes, it's a timing issue but the game doesn't make that clear. You have to get it just right.

Yeh I was doing that, but then he says " WHY DID YOU STOP " and " WHY DID YOU PAUSE "

But even with full Stamina, the mouse click refused to have any effect on your next swing.

Did do it in the end though

I think you are actually right in this regard, the biggest hurdle that KCD2 will have to overcome if its to win GOTY is its early in the year release date. Often games released early in the year get forgotten about by the time the GOTY award season comes about. We actually have a very recent example of this in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy released in February of that year, got a very good reception, lots of plaudits talking about it as GOTY candidate but by the time award season came round it ended up not only not winning but not even being a nominee. Most GOTY winners come from the last 3rd of the year, no doubt partly due to more bigger releases in that part of the year and partly due to recency bias.

@Grim5 said dragon's dogma 2 was going to be goty about 20 minutes after it released. Don't think it even got nominated lol.

Are you guys using weapons that you have the stats for? As if you dont meet the requirements then it drains your stamina significantly more which might mean you struggle with dealing combo's

I just dueled some random guy called Hornet and won 250 groshen off him. So that was nice. Now I am dealing with some devil apparations and missing gypsy girl. It is great to have Mutt back.

Would be funny if that was why Paul can't beat tomcat :p

Took me a while to realise this tbh, I was using heavy mace for a while and it took a chunk to swing it, then switched to a lighter one and clocked the stat requirements. Makes a lot of sense.

Actually finding swords more fun than in KCD 1, so have gone back to them for a bit. Quite satisfying taking fights now.

I am using military sword, which is basic sword for which I have stats. But my issue was more with his damage to me.

I killed some bandits and got some very expensive gear. I am wearing stuff worth 600+ :D
