** Kingdom Come : Deliverance 2 **

I am using military sword, which is basic sword for which I have stats. But my issue was more with his damage to me.

Yeah it’s most likely not the sword if you are using the starter style gear you get from bandits. It’s just about learning the janky combat system to get a tick box “task complete”. Once you get that just learn to perfect parry and riposte with a mace.

What works for me in combat:

- always keep an eye on the shield icon so you can block, don't overreache and spam attack or block
- attack, but keep your eye on stamina, when it's down you'll get the most damage (I think NPCs cheat and their stamina doesn't go down - at least at the same level as yours, when injured)
- when more than one enemy, always back down and retreat (walking backwards) and fight like that so you don't get surrounded
- eliminate the weakly armored first or the dogs/wolves
- get the skills required from the skill tree for your build.

With the exception of the usual RNG/RPG crap statistics, it will work fine for the majority of situations.

Of course there's always the plot armor NPC that will fight better just with its hands than with a weapon! :))

Gave this game a go today and, like the original, just can't get into the combat. Feels janky and unresponsive. Shame really, as other aspects of the game are well done. For those of you carrying on with, and enjoying, the game please remember to feed Mutt as many venison sausages as possible for me !

I almost fed him poisoned hare meat by mistake. Got rid of that **** asap!

The combat is good, just wait for the enemy to attack and block with shield + riposte.

I understand the combat system, just doesn't feel responsive or fun to me. Also, early on block/riposte feels like a bit of a "noob" trap ... makes you run out of stamina and susceptible to combos.

Got better sword and armor and Tomcat was defeated on first try in about 10 seconds. Masterstrike and his fighting techniques learned!

Combat does feel somewhat janky and unresponsive at the start. But it literally becomes more responsive and unjanky as you improve the skills at it and once you understand the timings and learn some combos. I find it vastly superior to the usual flailing of games like Skyrim. But yes, at the start it is rough.

Good to know. It felt like half the time ( using a controller ) the game wasn't registering my attempt to block or strike ; it was very inconsistent ( and I wasn't out of stamina ). Already refunded via Steam. May have a look again at the end of the year on sale, or if Warhorse tweak the combat in future updates.

Awesome and pretty funny discussion about KCD2 by Danny O'Dwyer from noclip, I liked his anecdote about the Semine quest

I play with controller too and I know what you mean - but now that I learned the timings and my ingame skill improved, I no longer have those issues.

Yes it takes a lot of getting used to and for the casual gamer it can be a major hurdle to get over. Like I said as a KCD1 veteran I was able to hold my own even without the in game skills progression. So it is worth noting that it’s not purely an in game skills issue, but a user skills issue. The old meme of “git gud” applies :)

It’s why a lot of KCD veterans end up with a heavy mace as their end weapon. It removes a lot of the finicky RNG timing elements needed with the swords and becomes almost a “bash to win” weapon. You still need to get timing and good directional attacks, but it needs less user “skill”.

KCD combat is mostly about timing and like all other RPGs, having the actual attributes to use the equipped weapon.

This is especially noticeable with bows. At first you can barely hold the bow straight for a few seconds and at full draw you are practically useless. Get your bow, strength and agility improved and your aim is noticeably more steady.

A tip for bows is to use the console crosshairs command. Or if your monitor has a crosshairs mode, turn it on. It should also be noted that the “wobble” always has the same pattern, it’s not actually random. Learn the pattern and it becomes much easier.

Lots of goalposts being moved here folks. Yes of course console games count because the official GOTY awards are cross platform.

There more than just W4 and GTA6 planned for this year and even if they slip (I did caveat this already), there are other big AAA games planned.

All I’m saying is talk of official GOTY are very premature.
If you read what I said.i meant that this game has game of year potential

Also, use your dog when there are multiple enemies, he really helps!
