Kingston SSD Deal. Very sweet!!

Pretty much the same + you get basically next day delivery for free, while other places will need 3-5 days shipping.
Still hoping for a nice little offer to match or even beat other competitors, a lot of people want a 256 drive, they will make a fortune, I have my plastic at the ready :P

Indeed ! But the ball is in OcUK's court now so we better just leave it at that. They know what we want so its down to them to make a descision. If we keep banging on about it they may get a little sick of it and turn the opposite way....

the economy must have had a large effect on the buying habits of forumites
i remember a few years ago a thread would never turn into this.

ocuk still give paper invoice +1
ocuk customer service forum +1

i have ordered from the other place in the past and never had any problems but i get the impression if i were to have any difficulties ocuk are more on the same level as their customers and the staff wouldnt need to jump through corporate red tape to help

Well mine arrived just now. A spare SSD at a good price. Will probably just use it in a caddy as a 120Gb backup flash drive on USB3 until a suitable lappy or spare PC comes along.

I have a couple of fixing kits already so did not need the tray convertor. The disk arrives in a rigid vacpac with a serial number on the card.

Making a loss on lots of 256GB doesn't make a fortune. When we can source a deal that is actually a deal for both ourselves and our customers then we will do it. Until then you will all have to wait a little while ;)

Surely like 5 quid cheaper to put it at the same price as you're competitors wouldn't hurt you :P or is the price you buy them at that close to the price you sell them? after you factor in whatever in between stuff there is (I don't know business stuff)
Pretty low profit margin if so ;p and if so I understand :p

So will there be a Deal tonight after 12pm or not thats all we wish to know really.

Just reviced mine.

Before I go ahead and install it, is there anything I should know before hand?
Apart from making sure the SATA is in AHCI mode and disconnecting my other drive first.

no just enable achi , install windows

move the page file to a mechanical drive if you have one
consider turning off windows prechache/superfetch crap you wont need it with the access times of an ssd.
most people disable file indexing aswell and limit the amount of space system restore can use to a sensible number or turn it off

Why move the page file to a mechanical drive?
Surely it would be faster on the SSD?

As far as I can see, the box/package does not state the firmware version.

if you goto the kingston site on the firmware update page it will tell you what number to look for on the drive to know if you need to update firmware or not.

nand chips lifespan is determined by the amount of write cycles they only take so many before they cant be used anymore.

whilst a pagefile isnt likely to have much of an impact on this you might aswell move it off the ssd if you can as every little helps

Ran the firmware updater on mine, but drive isn't showing up, whether thats a fault at my end or the firmware is upto date and doesn't need doing, I don't know! Drive is showing up & working fine so far, though!
