I was bought up proper', right-handed with fork in left and knife in right. Spoon in right if it is spaghetti!

For me it's always been fork in right hand and knife in left-hand despite being quite strongly right-handed, I know it's supposed to be wrong (and when doing place settings I would always set it out the other way) but it feels more comfortable for me so stuff tradition.

same as me.

im glad im not the only one.

1.fork in right hand and im right handed. (without a knife)
2.fork in left hand and im right handed. (when using a knife)

I alternate depending on where the food is on the plate. I switch over several times mid dining. Im told this is not good etiquette, however I then revel in my ambidextrous glory.

Fork in right hand, knife in left. Right handed.

My argument is that using your 'wrong' hand to fork food into your mouth will result in a stab to the face.

Then you are a good deal less left handed than you think. I assume you base (as most people do) whether you are left or right handed on which hand you write with? Out of interest:

Interlock the fingers of both hands. Whichever thumb is on top is dominant.

Fold your arms. Whichever forearm is on top is dominant.

Most people will do at least one of those the opposite way to what they consider themselves to be.

I feel I'm right handed but my left thumb & arm were on top, but I can do jack all with my left hand ,I reckon that test is bull :)

Interesting, my left thumb was on top and my right forearm was at the top, however for throwing/catching/writing etc I'm right handed as it just feels wrong left handed. In terms of kicking a ball/snowboarding/ice skating etc I'm predominantly right footed so that leads me to think that my natural tendency is to be quite strongly right sided. While I could probably perform most tasks with my left hand/foot it is not particularly comfortable to do so.

I too use my left thumb and left arm dominantly here, but generally I use my right-side for everything. The only thing I do in a traditionally left-handed way is playing drums, although one could argue that since the aim of a drummer is to have independence of all four limbs, there shouldn't be a certain "handed" aspect to it.

If you're right handed and hold them the wrong way round (knife left, fork right), my experience of watching people trying to eat like this is that you end up holding your fork as a shovel, and using your knife to hold the food while you tear it away with the fork.

The reason for the 'right' way (as mentioned earlier) is that the knife should do most of the work.

Right handed and fork in the right hand. I used to get told off at school for this. Oh yes, a right handed person holding a fork in their right hand, must be the anti christ.
