Kolo Toure Suspended for Failed Drugs Test

Good job Lescott is in form.
What an idiot though, a long suspension will mean a breach of contract so Mancini will more than likely take action and mutually terminate his contract.

A suspension wouldn't be the breach... taking a controlled substance and bringing the club into disrepute would be the breach. It'd also be a unilateral termination.

But will they really do that? Surely Kolo's part of the reason Yaya went to Citeh?
Ah sorry.
Well Mancini wont stand for it i can't imagine so Marwood and Cooke will need to deal with him. Possibly, although 200k pw tax free probably helped :p. I cant see him wanting to leave just because his brother has gone though?

I suspect the ~£200k per week helped too ;)

And I think we're all getting ahead of ourselves. Who knows, maybe it was just some innocent mistake and he'll get a slap on the wrist; a fine and a couple of months suspension. Lets wait until we've heard all the facts before deciding on whether stoning or the electric chair is the appropriate punishment.

The b sample isn't even back yet. If it's a performance enhancer then he'll get a few months I guess but we'll see.

Innocent until b sample is in.

Simon Mensing the Hamilton player was banned for 4 weeks... from January 29 to February 28. Clicky for full article

"UKAD have confirmed 'the presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers' in a sample collected from the player on December 29, 2010.

"The stimulant methylhexaneamine (MHA) was detected in the player's sample, following which a four-week period of ineligibility was imposed on him, starting January 29, 2011, at 0900 and concluding on February 28, 2011, at 0900."

UKAD confirmed the violation on their website and Mensing issued his own response today.

A statement issued on Mensing's behalf read: "Simon used the dietary supplement from September last year which clearly states it contains no banned substances.

"It is freely available from high street retailers.

"Simon sought advice from two different retailers and his club and it appeared there was no banned substance contained in the supplement."

This could be a similar thing... Methylhexanamine was only added to the list from 2010, guessing other things were as well so if Toure has used stuff that is in high street medicines the club officials may have missed it by accident. On the other hand it could be something sinister, being a very high profile and wealthy person that Toure is.

Rumors from a few on City forum is:
Test was done on 12th after utd game. The substance was found and on 17th our head physio 'left'. It has been in the club until now.

Surely they'd be taken at the same time then separated and sent to different labs for analysis? The B sample would probably be kept in cold storage unless a positive showed on the A sample.

It's a guard against a false positive which, statistically probably not that improbable.

I don't understand why these highly paid footballers even risk touching cold remedies, it's not like a common cold is going to kill them... a contamination might have happened during manufacturing etc.
