Korean Grand Prix 2010, Korean International Circuit - Race 17/19

I watch F1 for excitement, Lewis delivers excitement nearly every race but I have never been excited watching Jenson drive.

The fact remains, he is the best No.2 driver in the business. If paired with a top line driver, that team will generally score as many points as is realistically possible. He hardly ever makes mistakes. He follows his team-leader dutifully and when Hamilton goes out or runs in to trouble, he picks up the baton, to bring back a reasonable haul of points. This is the absolute definition of a No.2 driver.

The best driver combination will almost always consist of Button (paired with either Alonso or Hamilton). Unfortunately, as we saw in 2007 (and 1988), you cannot pair 2 top line drivers together without it all ending in tears. Vettel would probably also struggle to drive with another top line driver alongside him. The best thing to do is have a No.1 and No.2 driver pairing, to maintain harmony in the team AND score big points.

Massa used to be a good No.2 driver, but for whatever reason, he has had the stuffing knocked out of him, as a result, he seems to be merely making up the numbers now.

If Ferrari want to win the Constructors' title next year, they had better find themselves a better No.2 - there is no way that Alonso can win Ferrari the Constructors' title all by himself, while Button is at McLaren.

You didn't watch Brazil last year then? Or Abu Dhabi?

The fact is that when I watch Lewis push I feel that he is pushing so hard that he is one tiny mistake away from putting it in the wall but I don't get the same feeling from Jenson.

That may make Jenson a smarter racing driver but he is not as exciting to watch.

You clearly don't actually watch the races. Red Bull should have won races on pace early on last season. They got stuck more than once behind other cars and made mistakes in races as well to hand the lead to Jenson.

There were more races the red bull was competitive than the Brawn. The Brawn fell apart at Silverstone which was less than half distance in the season. The red bull 1-2 at china and should have won more of the first 8 races than the two they did.

I think you'll find that's what happens with two decent/average drivers with a MASSIVE car advantage still almost give it away. Button has been racing for years, one single year he was really competitive, when the car blew everything else away, anyone that suggests otherwise because for one or two races it COULD have been closer, doesn't really mean anything.

For the first half of the year Brawn were CRUISING most of the time, just because Red Bull had issues, as everyone does at points, doesn't mean all that much in the end.

Red Bull have a significant advantage this year, if Vettel/Webber stopped trying to knock each other off the track, frankly they'd be miles and miles ahead.

Likewise if the Red Bull car this year had the Brawn's reliability of last year, the title would be over already.

Brawn were by FAR the best car for the majority of last year, thats simple a fact, no one even looked close, they weren't stressed, they cruised most of the time and a large part of the reason for such a big lead was no fighting over 1/2 in the team, Rubens was happy to play second fiddle and do whatever he wants.

I'd also say Rubens is a FAR better no.2 than Button, why, because he's proved it, for a decade. Last year, and previously behind Michael he'll happily cruise around the track blocking off anyone, staying in a safe second, then he'll put in a 5 lap stint where he burns around the track making Button, even Michael at times look slow. Its just a little "I can drive faster, I choose not to" message. The same way Vettel even cruising into second will most of the time put in the fastest lap just to show even cruising at no.2, he's really faster or at least as fast as Webber.

Meh, I've basically from memory never seen Button be interesting or exciting on the track. Its not about finishing 1st, or 20th, you can still put on a show, put in some good driving. Kobyashi has been pretty entertaining to watch on several occasions this year, slicing through the field, sometimes with way better tires, sometimes not. He was just willing to try at the last race, Button wasn't.

AT the end of the day, same with football, I don't care who wins, loses or doesn't finish, I want to be ENTERTAINED by what I see. I prefer it when Arsenal win than lose, but I'd take midtable and entertaining football than Mourinho Chelsea/Inter style football and every title ever.

The result is something that becomes a stat, the race itself is what you remember. No Button racing stands out in my mind as entertaining. If the field was 24 Buttons all being happy with where they were, I'd shoot myself rather than watch it. Same race with 24 Hamiltons would be completely insane, and it might result in 24 DNF's, but it would be fun to watch.

This season Button has performed exactly how he did the second half of last season when he no longer had car superiority, what won him the championship last season was beating Barrichello in 6 out of 7 of the opening races where the rest of the field never stood a chance. If you look at the rest of the 2009 season when Red Bull/McLaren caught up he never won a race but finished consistently in the points (sound familiar?) and that was enough for him to win the title.

Button has never looked like winning the title this season whereas before Monza Hamilton had looked the favourite, Lewis has had 3 nightmare races on the bounce (which have no doubt cost him the championship) and have flatteringly allowed Button to catch up to him points-wise.

I like Jenson Button as a personality but anyone who has followed F1 this season can see that Lewis Hamilton has had the upper hand most of the time.

The only support race there this weekend did the entire race distance minus the first 2 corners behind the safety car.

Apparently the marshalls were very slow to remove stopped cars.
