Korean Grand Prix 2011, Yeongam Circuit - Race 16/19

Now that was proper qualifying.. :)

Nice to see Lewis just do what he does best.. just make the car dance..

For the race, sadly, it seems far too much about tyres, and Lewis just isn't that kind of driver, it's Button's for the taking I reckon..

I'd like tyres that are far more durable, with about 1-2 seconds a lap degradation after 20-30 laps.. not this 10 laps and falling off a cliff non-sense, it's giving us unpredictability and lots of overtaking, but it's not showing us any proper dogfights..

Remembered to set series link up again.
Working tonight and have to pick a new tv up at 10am. So depending what time I finish work will either watch it when I get home, or just park up in a lay-by and watch it on iPad.

I went to this race last year. There were about 8 of us working over there at the time and we managed to get tickets. We got bloody drenched, but we had a brilliant day.

The statement in the OP that the track was finished in time for the race is true, just. The stands weren't finished, most of the seats where we were sat were held down with one bolt (instead of 2 or 3) and they were loose!

The transport links were poor, at best. We tried to get back to the car on the park and ride bus, but not being able to read Korean we stood no chance, as there was no signage in English. This was pretty shocking considering the multi-nationality of the sport. We ended up getting a taxi back to the car, where the driver tried to charge us something like £2,500 for the journey! (We didn't pay that much!) Also, there were very few places to get food and merchandise.

The race was hampered by the rain and by debris on the track from a crash in the only support race, which made it to the first corner before the safety car came out and didn't go back in before the end of the race!

We enjoyed the race, but I went to Silverstone for this years British Grand Prix and it was 100% better in every way.

We've had years of dog fighting on boring, predictable tyres... I like the new tyres, makes for strategic prowess, intelligent racing and looking after your car better.

Although I must say I thoroughly enjoyed watching Lewis do what he does best - making that car dance in Q3 and Q2 was beautiful.

Maybe they should mix things up by having both kinds of tyres , one race the "dog fighting" compounds and the next race the more strategic races.

Hamilton certainly didn't look happy. It will be interesting to see how he reacts if he wins tomorrow.

What he said in his interview with Lee McKenzie pretty much sums it up: his qualifying pace this season has actually been pretty good, so is it really a surprise to see someone who used to be so good (well, still is) at qualifying stick it on pole when the car he's driving is arguably the best on the grid at present?

It's his races that have been poor this season for whatever reasons (not necessarily down to his pace, but more the circumstances that seem to unfold against him); not his qualifying.

My feeling is that Lewis is upset because he feels he should have been able to get pole much more during the season just like he got today, and that it's too little too late. Had he still been in with a chance to win the championship, I think he would have been over the moon with todays result, beut to him, a grand prix pole now and even a win tomorrow won't really satisfy him. He wanted the championship and is feeling a bit gutted. Which when you think about it, is fair enough considering the skill, determination and competitiveness these drivers have. Also, the only championship Lewis won was only by the skin of his teeth because another car slowed down to let him by from what I recall. Wasn't that the case? So it would be nice to see him win another championship by a huge margin like vettel did this year.

That's what I think.

I think that if he gets a good race performance today, then he will be a lot happier.

By looking at his interviews, you would be forgiven for thinking that he had just had a job application rejected by RedBull ;)

Anyway, only 2 hours to go to race start.

So it would be nice to see him [Hamilton] win another championship by a huge margin like vettel did this year.

He will need McLaren to give him a brilliant car to do this. And, even if McLaren gave him a super car, he would still have to deal with Button, who (crazy as it may sound at his age), is improving by leaps and bounds. In another year, Hamilton may struggle to beat Button on even a dry track.

So, winning by a huge margin is not going to be easy for Hamilton.

Personally, I think the best way forward for him is to attempt to secure a seat at RBR for 2013. Hamilton is wasting his best years in a car which is consistently starting off slow. By the time McLaren catch up (at the end of the season), the title is already gone. The worst thing about it all is that McLaren are not changing their strategy...they are continuing with their current methodology.
