Korean Grand Prix 2011, Yeongam Circuit - Race 16/19

Can't say I've seen or heard of any 6 pot turbos personally, only small 4 pot turbos on hatchbacks or twin turbos on larger saloons.

1.6 V6 turbos? I can't say I know of any road car running one.

And yes, of course developing a new engine will cost, but we are running a current engine formula that, when it gets succeeded in 2014, will be 10 years old! We have to move on at some point.

wouldnt be the first time road cars followed in F1 footsteps though.

True, and I really hope its successfully and we get a load more manufacturers building engines, but when you consider the FIAs aim was to appeal to the mass market car makers, it doesn't fit. It's a middle ground to please the manufacturers who would ideally love to run V8s, 10s or 12s (Ferrari and Mercedes).

the BMWs run single turbo 6 pots, although these are straights not vee's!

And there a lot bigger than 1.6s. If anything the I4 turbo formula would be nearer to BMWs current engines.

It's a turbo V6 though, something hardly any manufacturer uses in a road car, as opposed to a 1.6 online 4 turbo, which has become the standard for average Joe hatchbacks.

Whilst I wasn't a fan of the idea of 4 pot F1 cars, I completely understood the reason behind it. The 1.6 V6 turbos just make no sense to me.

The motivation is the engine size, not the number of cylinders. As I understood it, the 1.6 size was not an issue however the teams wanted V6 instead of I4 as it would be a far easier engine to physically mount.

And you see many 2.4 V8's on sale? ;)
It's not like they're going to take an F1 lump as is and put it in a road car, it's never been about that. Rather the development that goes into it.

Yeah I have no qualms changing the engine regulations either, I was just saying the only downside I could think of is the cost of it, but is necessary of course. It'll also probably mean that there'll be a larger margin of performance between engine suppliers until the FIA let the others catch up again.

No ones up :( stupid insomnia.

Coming to the end of the practice Hamilton is 6 th's ahead of Webber or so, even further ahead of Alonso, 4-5th's over Button. Though commentators are banging on about Button lost 2-3 th's behind Webber, who was frankly half a second ahead and only in the final few corners, and, grr, Button just did a very good time but lost time again in the 3rd sector, but that was his tyres giving up.

I don't hate Button or think he's a bad driver, just not great, but the excuses everyone makes for him does my head in.

lol, alguersuari is awesome, he's blocked Vettel like he's defending his position all around the track twice now, he just won't get out the way, putting his car all over the place trying to stay ahead :p

lol, more awesome, Hamilton being held up by Schumy, puts in a move on him, he is WAY faster, then Schumy looks like he's getting out the way then almost smacks his wing off cutting across into the corner. Its better than most of the races this season :P

Morning all :)
missed P3 but it looks like rb was doing heavy fuel runs?

Not really, Webber seemingly 7 th's down or so...... so standard and Hamilton/Vettel both essentially didn't get a full fast lap done in the final 5 laps. Vettel was potentially on a scorcher with a great first sector time then ran into Alguersuari. Difficult to see as Mclaren are fast in the middle sector so would vettel have been fast enough in sector 1 to make for the fastest lap. Vettel certainly didn't get a good run of lap times in the final 10 laps so his times weren't even close to what he could do......... just the question was how much better would he have done, as his lead on Webber isn't always massive while Hamilton/Button had a very comftable lead on Webber.

Eh, Webber doing a silly slow lap on the supersofts, why on earth is he on the supersofts anyway in Q1?

Not a clue, and Vettel's gone as slow/slower than Webber aswell? Already taken them off aswell before even backing into the pits? They know something others don't like one half fast lap prebaking the tyres will help them last longer in the race?

Very strange, grr, every time Button goes over the line they expect Button to be faster, Hamiltons 1.38.2 they said oh, thats not fast then in a giddy excited voice, lets see Button's time, wink wink, wait, 4 th's slower with a dissappointed voice. Again with their second laps.

But still softs, 137.5 is a good time, 1.39 flat on the supersofts is, beyond bizarre. I think in practice this morning Hamilton/Button were just on/breaking the 1.37 mark so half second more than that on the softs seems very good.
