Korean Grand Prix 2011, Yeongam Circuit - Race 16/19

- locked since last year, WTF.

No one says it's been locked since last year, the quote was 'looks like' lets not get carried away. But agreed, poor show by those Koreans, which is a shame, I guess they don't know how much is riding on it. Especially with so many new places looking to creep into the calender that would have instant support/filled grandstands and enthusiasm!

Hope the sun shines on sunday and gives us a good race! Looks like it will so far.

Well it certainly doesn't sound like there has been much, if any use of the facilities. Like you say, it is a shame really since there are so many venues that would easily fill the grandstands and put on a good show.

Nico Rosberg was found to have caused a collision in Free Practice 2 this morning, but due to his good record the penalty has instead been awarded to Lewis Hamilton, for being a mate of his...

Lol.

In seriousness, has this been through the stewards? I can't see anything happen as the key thing is they gt a penalty for causing an avoidable accident. I think a car running slightly wide in the rain is hardly worth a penalty, and the Toro Rosso was only their due to rubbish track design.

They didn't give him a penalty for the collision, due to his good record in the past, and, no doubt the circumstances of the crash.

The penalty (and hefty fine) was for talking to the media before going to see the stewards immediately after the collision.

Taking credit for someone else's joke, cool.

True, the whole korean GP idea was totally sold on the back of Hyundai entering the sport, sadly that idea died even quicker than it surfaced. I've heard other rumors that with the engines changing in 2013 that hyundai and others might be looking to come back in one way or another. Hope that is true, but would hate to see the field also then diluted with a bunch of also rans.

all might not be lost for Yeongnam!

I could see why Hyundai would be interested in the original I4 Turbo engine specification that was planned. I can't see why they would be interested any more now its a V6.

And its 2014 for the new engines now.

TBH I don't know why Nico was even called up to the Stewards ... wasn't like he was the only car coming off at turn 1. Not his fault that the pit lane exit is tarded... I'm surprised they haven't fixed it for this year already. It was ridiculously wet last year so someone should have realised the problem and accounted for it before now.

schumacher took to the offroad circuit by mistake

did you see what the stewards actually said
statement from the stewards said: "The stewards having regard to the extenuating circumstances involving the Pit Exit, the wet track and the telemetry which indicated the Driver of Car 8 was on full braking from the time where he apparently noticed Car 19, and further, taking into account Mr Rosberg's good record during his years in Formula 1, decide to impose no penalty."

i thought past incidents were suposed to have no bearing on steward decisions? only the actual incident they are investigating was suposed to matter?..

no wonder hamilton gets so many penalties if this is how the stewards are thinking at other circuits to...

TBH, that is a concerning revaluation, that stewards are allowing their own opinions of the past performances of a driver to affect their judgement of an isolated incident.

I need to get more up to date :)
Although has Hyundai have produced V6 engines for far longer than turbo 4bangers, I think their interest could still be peaked. But with the dates pushed back, and no news from them, I guess the home event will be gone before any car arrives.

Certainly helps explain a lot of the penalties we have seen. Once again making up the rules as they go along.

It's a turbo V6 though, something hardly any manufacturer uses in a road car, as opposed to a 1.6 online 4 turbo, which has become the standard for average Joe hatchbacks.

Whilst I wasn't a fan of the idea of 4 pot F1 cars, I completely understood the reason behind it. The 1.6 V6 turbos just make no sense to me.

They're already fairly common place and becoming increasingly more so, just as 4 pots have become 4 pot turbos. 6 pot engined cars are being replaced with 6 pot turbos.

I've no doubt the cars will still sound great either. The only problem is that it will significantly increase costs to develop and test these engines over what we already have.
