Afternoon all,

Got my MOT due soon and i wanted to know if Kwik-Fit is as bad as people say it is.

I have Kwik-Fit right next to my work which is the reason i'm asking as my usual garage is 7 miles out of town and i don't fancy walking to work from there ;)

Anyone had any good/bad experiences with them?

Thanks.

I used Kwik-Fit for my last MOT in November. Dropped the keys off, collected at night, no problems.

So yeah had a very good experience of using them.

They are just likely to MOT your car and say, "Hmmmm you need 4 new tyres, a new exhaust and your in luck because that's exactly what we do!". Also not the best trained workers ever. If it's your only option and you know your car isn't a total shed and should either pass or only fail on a minor thing I wouldn't be too worried but if not I'd look for a good local indy garage. Always good to have a garage you use frequently and trust as it could potentially make things cheaper in the long run.

Monkeys. I'd rather walk the 7 miles.

agreed, overpriced....way overpriced

Went in to get a quote on 4 new tyres, some brand i have never heard off at around 70 each with 1 free tyre or some offer (looked then up, they are bad bad tyres), ended up being 210 quid with the free one. Went to a local garage, 207 for 4 new goodyears.

nuff said and wouldnt ever go back.

Well the MOT is an MOT, they cant fail your car on items which arent a fail can they.

You have to be an approved MOT tester etc etc blah blah so its not just anyone doing it for you, the work experience kid wont have a go like he might do if you went in for some tyres.

Id say go for it and see what happens.

I've heard horror stories where they can, and will fail them on trivial things which should have passed. As long as you have your wits about you, you'll be fine.

I only take my car to get MOT'd where I know the people doing it.

More likely to get nudged through with an advisory if something needs to be looked at, of course you can't always do this.

I think it's just cool to hate them. I wouldn't have any problems with them doing an MOT on my car. It's going to be blatantly obvious if your exhaust is blowing and need new tyres .

they failed my sister's car because the NSF tyre was allegedly below teh legal limit

the shoulder wasnt fantastic but the rest of it was "ok". 3mm-4mm everywhere.

she took it there because they did a cheap £13 mot wanted to charge her £170 for the replacement tyre. we took it elsewhere and got it dont properly

An MOT is a MOT, who cares who does it, if you are confident it will pass an MOT, save yourself the 7 mile trip.

If your so insistant that the tester was wrong then appeal about it or do you think it would fail at a VOSA chosen MOT station?

Really? I got mine for £35 in November.

And you can still get it for that price by booking online.

It's an MOT at the end of the day.

As long as you have your wits about you they can't really shaft you. Its either MOT worthy or not. To be totally honest I'd rather not walk 7 miles for the sake of putting it in an indy.
